 Excitement in the Air!
« Thread Started on Nov 2, 2009, 12:19pm »

Just wanted to comment that for the first time in awhile, there seems to be a real excitement for Elon basketball. Talked to some of the players at homecoming and really seemed they are feeling an excitement this season that I've not seen in awhile. One said they are working their butts off but having fun at the same time - seem to have lots of respect for each other and the coaching staff. Also talked with some people who saw the girls' scrimmage and felt they are going to be really good. I believe it's going to be a great year for Elon basketball - am planning to get out and support the team(s) every chance I can. Wish the girls/guys played on same nights so I could catch both of them sometimes.

Surprised to see no chatter on here about the first exhibition game. I know football is the main focus now, but it's basketball season now! Let's get behind all Phoenix teams and talk!

ELON, N.C. – Elon Phoenix fans can get a sneak peak at the 2009-10 men’s basketball squad when Elon hosts Washington & Lee on Monday, November 2 at 7 p.m., in the first of two exhibition games at Alumni Gym this month. Tickets are still available at a cost of $10 each. Elon students will be admitted free with a valid student ID.

Fans who cannot attend the game can tune into WSOE, Elon’s student-run radio station, at 89.3 FM or online on the live webcast at http://org.elon.edu/wsoe/.

In its second exhibition contest, Elon will host Greensboro College on Monday, November 9 at 7 p.m., before beginning its regular-season slate at Lipscomb on Saturday, November 14 at 8 p.m.

Not a very impressive first half. Hope they can pick it up in the second half.

Very impressive 2nd half! These guys ran the whole game & scored 87 points. I'm very impressed at their stamina & effort.

Listened in on the radio.

I know that this was a DIII team, but sounded like the defense and especially Bonney did a great job and turned it into offense quickly in the second half.

I couldn't help but think to Matheney's Davidson roots and the way that they push the ball no matter what. One of our problems in the past was scoring the ball with the slow offense against a set defense.

This quicker pace won't necessarily mean more made baskets, but it certainly will mean more shots and a chance at more points than in years past.

Again, a DIII win isn't great, but it's certainly a good feeling to see the team's effort in the second half.

It should surely be more fun to watch. The past few years were a little like watching grass grow.
