wow So next year a lot of teams could get left out. Baseball down to two days will put a strain on the pitching staff

Out of curiousity, how many other conferences are taking actions like these? Can you imagine Conference USA right now? i.e. ECU to UTEP
I don't like the baseball change at all, but the conference tourneys should be fine. Increases the odds of the better teams advancing to the ncaa tournament and it's the lower profile sports.
One of the more logical things that I'm surprised they haven't done is scheduling doubleheader men's and women's hoops with the same schools or even others sports where possible. Seems that would have greater impacts than not printing conference media guides.
Go Phoenix!

Basketball doubleheaders wouldn't save money. Same number of buses, same number of hotel rooms, same number of meals, same number of officials. And with the way the schedule works (mbb going to 18 games playing division 2x and other division once/wbb playing everyone twice/no wbb for Citadel) it would be impossible to schedule.

Just for sake of discussion, when BB doubleheaders "do" work, schedule wise, is just one admission charged, or to people pay twice as much? Was trying to figure out if it would increase the WBB revenue? I realize it would not save on traveling expenses...but seems it would save electricity if you were firing up the lights/AC/heat, etc. on 1 night versus 2 (when men are home and women are away and vice versa). Although it would not save travel expenses for the teams, would it save travel expenses for trainers, AD people, etc?

One positive for baseball is the doubleheaders give them back one day of practice time each week. Kennedy mentioned in his preseason preview how tough the new schedule makes it to practice with games on Fri-Sat-Sun & Tues-Wed and Monday as the required off-day. Next year they could use Sunday as the off day and get to practice on both Monday & Thursday (depending on the travel situation for that week's games).

Back when they did DHs, and tickets were $7 for both mens and womens games, it was just one admission price ($7) for both games. A couple of weekends ago, we paid $5 for both games, since we went to the womens game and just stayed. The ticket staff didnt seem like they had their act together for that one. Don't know what they will do going forward. As far as saving electricity, it seems to me those lights are on quite often anyway...

Most doubleheaders are two tickets since it's split. The only reason for the back-to-back games was TV.

I am in agreement that basketball DHs would really not change anything for basketball.
The question I have is does baseball move to playing double headers on days with two games of 7 innings??
Also on other Conferences I haven't heard of anything official yet. I know a lot of them are cutting back on traveling and other expenses but as far as tournaments and teams nothing for sure.
Also more than likley the only ones who will make huge cutbacks will be small I-AA and below conferences. You know the ones that barely have any TV revenue for games and more importantly arnt making bank on Bowl games.

Both games will be 9 inning games...two 7s is not allowed any more.

one thing that worries me is the baseball DH. In past we have seemed to split these games. Now its all even in socon contention but what if we dont win the conf, and are going for an atlarge bid. Will these DH hurt us? IE loosing games we should of won due to fatigue and pitching rotation

On a similar note, Furman broke its contract to play Delaware in football this year in order to play Missouri. The reason was to get the bigger pay check. I think they were already playing Auburn.
