Release: 04/30/2009
2010 Football Schedule
Eagles play five games at Paulson Stadium, travel to Navy.
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern University Director of Athletics Sam Baker announced the 2010 Football schedule on Thursday morning (April 30). The schedule was approved during the University Athletics Committee meeting.
Kickoff times and the Homecoming 2010 opponent will be announced at a later date.
The Eagles open the 2010 campaign at Paulson Stadium on September 4th against Savannah State, the ninth meeting between the two programs and will be the first since 2003 (8-0 all-time lead).
The next two weeks Georgia Southern is on the road: September 11th at Navy and 18th at Coastal Carolina. This marks the first-ever meeting between the Eagles and Midshipmen, while the Eagles will face Coastal for the third time. GS has won the first two meetings in the Coastal Carolina series (38-21 in 2006, 42-34 in 2007).
Southern Conference play begins at Paulson Stadium on September 25th against Wofford, and then the Eagles remain at home on October 2nd versus Elon.
Following a bye week on October 9th, the Eagles travel in consecutive weeks to Chattanooga (Oct. 16) and The Citadel (Oct. 23).
On October 30th, GS plays host to Samford. The Eagles will face Appalachian State on November 6th. The regular season concludes with games at Western Carolina (Nov. 13) and Furman (Nov. 20).
“I am pleased we are able to announce the 2010 football schedule at this point in time. Everything fell into place, allowing us to take advantage of this opportunity to announce the schedule earlier than usual,” said Baker. “I know our fans are excited about the opportunity to play Navy. Coastal Carolina has the opportunity to become a rivalry type of game, and the games with Savannah State have always generated great interest in the Coastal Empire.”
