Saw something from an interview with the SoCon Commissioner that indicates the conference is voting this week on whether Davidson and Elon will be allowed to participate in the basketball conference in March 2014...implying it was up in the air. Wasn't C of C allowed to paticipate this year? Wouldn't that set a "past practice" that would have to be honored? It would be extremely unfair for the rising seniors to be denied the opportunity to win the conference their last season. Hopefully that won't happen.

Everything you said is correct. Should App, Elon, GSU and Davidson not be allowed to play for championships in non-football sports, I'm sure that would enter into legal territory. On the bright side, our law school would get some work close to home... Interestingly though, Iamarino said in the Q&A he did the other day for the Post & Courier, (I think), that he recommended the departing schools be permitted to compete for championships, where it was not an NCAA infraction, like in football.

I think the question put to the commissioner was because of what the CAA decided to enforce with ODU and GSU's departure; it was already in the conference by-laws. In this case, I think a by-law change would be required and that would/could actually push the others out the door faster...in addition to a possible legal action. IMO, it won't happen. We'll be able to compete, as will the others. SoCon isn't that stupid (I think/hope).

Well, apparently there were quite a few folks PO'ed that Elon and CoC both were allowed to participate in the baseball tourney.

Are these adults we're talking about? We play by the rules. Change the rules & all bets are off. If they kick us out early does that mean we no longer owe the $600k? I think that if the by laws were changed now after the fact a court would certainly find that we could reduce or eliminate the exit fee.

I'd be PO'd too if I just lost to a school that just announced a move...
