After another miserable performance it is time for AD Blank to start looking for a new coach.....Swepson must go!

I couldn't agree more. My how things have fallen since the departure of Lembo. Really frustrating to watch these guys coach.

I won't comment on the "fire Swepson" issue, but this game was different than the UNC game last year. For one thing we moved the ball on GT, we just couldn't keep possesion. Our best defensive lineman went out after the first series with an injury. Jordan Jones was within inches of numerous sacks. He will be a monster in SoCon play. our secondary was beat on several occasions, but whether we'd like to admit it or not, this is a BCS team & has faster receivers than we have D backs, so you have to expect some of this. I think GT's D scored more points than their offense. Some of our receivers had trouble hanging on to the ball which caused a couple of interceptions. Poor decisions on Quinn's part caused a couple more. But, Quinn wasn't touched all day. This is HUGE. We/I thought the OL would be the worst part of our team this season. They really stepped up. Warrick (TE) and Ricky Brown (WR) seriously stepped up & looked very good. The other WR were a bit disappointing. BJ Bennett also looked good at RB. I think he'll wind up on the ones. I don't know what the offensive stats were today but I'm sure they were much better than the UNC game.
Once again, I am not as much on the Fire Swepson band wagon as some of you. And I'm not saying we don't deserve better, but if they can tighten things up a bit, I think this team will be better than last year's team. I personally think Swepson is improving. If he survives after this season, he may develop into a decent FCS HC.
Also, our frosh kicker will be great. he has the best leg strength we've had in some time. With a little accuracy work, he stands to break some records while he's here. The punter also has a very strong leg. Each of them had one miscue but remember the last time they kicked in a game it was in high school, not against a pretty good BCS team.

70 - 0...... no way to spin this. Do we want a "decent FCS HC"?

Man. Not sure where to start. First off, Blank should have never let this game get played. I don't care about the $. After last year, we should have pulled out. This sets a horrible tone for the year. Plus, GT's chop blocking took its toll.
I tend to agree that at times we actually looked okay moving the ball. However, Quinn made some horrible decisions on simple throws. I also thought our OL was great considering their youth and going against a BCS team.
Defensively, we were horrible. Bad angles, poor tackling and they did not play assignment football. They key to stopping the option. All I kept hearing was how our new DC simplified things etc..etc. well, he failed his first test miserably.
Overall, it was an embarrassing day. To me, the running clock request was the worst. That is plain quitting. What about 60 minutes of football? How can you challenge kids to fight on every play regardless of score when you throw in the towel like that. No excuses.
Lastly, karma is a pregnant dog. Throwing up 56-0 with your first string QB is uncalled for and simply unprofessional. They threw on numerous plays. I can handle it with your 4th team. Not your starters. Even my GT buddy thought it was bush league.
I'll judge the finished product. However, I'm shocked at how far we have fallen in three years.

This was poor scheduling, period. Not all exposure for a program is good, we lost 130-0 verses unc and tech. Swepson will be judged on his record at the end of this season, he is not to blame for the mistakes on the field yesterday or scheduling the ACC front runner to open the season...let's schedule Alabama for next season...

We can't help that there were multiple pick 6's which resulted in our quarterback's FIRST EVER START not being able to get as many meaningful reps at the beginning as planned. It was all to get him more comfortable throwing the ball which is a weapon that GT has lacked for 5 years now. Tech went in and took care of business while trying to get some of their newer players meaningful reps. Dives up the middle don't do that. Just look at the TOP for the first half. Our defense was basically on the field for 3 possessions straight.

This weekend Towson beat UConn, W&M and Nova were competitive against their BCS opponents, McNeese wins by 30 over South Florida, EWU beats OSU, EIU beats San Diego State by 20+, etc. The list goes on and on. I didn't expect Elon to beat GT and didn't expect to win at UNC last year, but I expect more than 62-0 and 70-0. These are not scores indicative of a team ready to compete for FCS championships.
Under Lembo we were all excited about these BCS matchups (USF, Duke, Wake) and under Swepson we're asking why we even scheduled them (Vandy, UNC, GT). That says a lot. The month of September will be big for Swepson to make his case.
Go Phoenix!

Swepson's case has been made. They'll all be looking for jobs at the end of this year. I used to be a diehard fan, went to all the games under Seagraves, Hamilton and Lembo. When Swepson was hired, when the information died, when all excitement faded; I just stopped caring.
I just look through scores to see how much we lost by now. Our program is a joke. These kids would be lucky to be backups at most FCS schools and we have a group of coaches from either LOSING programs, TERRIBLE programs or are here and in over their heads.
Calling for the running clock was an embarrassment, especially when the ESPN3 guys noted that they've never seen it used in college, only High School. I think that sums up our staff.
It'd be better to cut Swepson now, place one of the assistants as interim coach and let them finish the season that way

Man,I miss the Lembo-Riddle era. I think the running clock may have been the low point in the history of Elon Football. We have to turn things around in a hurry with the CAA coming our way next year. I have friends that are alumni of CAA schools and I'll never hear the end of it if we continue playing this way. Oh, by the way, I did like the new jerseys with the white lettering & numbers! Go Phoenix!!

Let's see what Swepson can do 3/4 through the season. He will then have had 2 and 3/4 years to show what he is capable of. If the results are fair/poor - let him go. Teams are now parting ways with ineffective coaches earlier, as to avoid the massive hiring and firing at the end of the season. It allows time to prepare and target good candidates.
This was a poor hire by Blank to start with.
What happens from now on will show us what direction Elon wants to take in regard to football. Either, the administration/board are satisfied with mediocrity or worse and want to put all eggs in the basketball basket, ala Davidson - or - want to aggressively pursue a desire to be a football contender in the CAA.

Well, this game put us in the records book - and not in a good way. We now hold the records for the largest point margin by an ACC team...at some point, Blank needs to decide if the amount of money we gain from playing these no-win games is worth the damage to our program. Hopefully this year's team can bounce back better than last year's from the total demoralizing game by UNC...but I'm not sure it can - maybe if we had more experience but young kids...I don't know. Yeah, we should win next week...but, if their confidence too much of a beating by GT...I don't know. I'm not saying fire Swepson - he did not schedule the game. And no, I'm not saying fire Blank, either - but I hope we have better scheduling next year.

70-0 is 70-0 there is no way sugarcoat this .... whether We improve from this will be the story of this season. No one is immune from this , whatever you wish to call it. Elon has to claim this debacle.

Before I get to the negatives, I did want to point out positives from over the weekend. This offense CAN move the ball. The OL played pretty darn well. BJ Bennett will have a good season. Quinn was continually coaching the players on the field, and while heading to the sidelines. It looks like he may be a good leader.
Negatives: Two games to start the last 2 seasons, 132 points for them, ZERO scores for Elon. We lost 3 guys on defense, anyone heard their condition? I wish them a speedy recovery! Quinn made some pretty bad decisions that lead to turnovers. He had 2 TD passes, they just went to the wrong team. Though this is the best offense we'll see all season, I still expected more out of the defense. Swepson calling for the continuous clock. Not good coaching to keep up any morale. If we have a losing season, Swepson is done.
I hope they can rebound and win some games. The first two weeks of this season just won't be a good barometer.
