Anyone out there have a list of coaches that would be good contenders for the HC position? Obviously, it would all be speculation, but it's fun to have a wish list.

1) curt cignetti : head coach -3rd year at D2 Indiana (Pa). Ranked 8 in the polls.
2)Joel Williams : asst Head coach/ OC for # 24 Delta State. (Div 2).
3) Al Groh: big time name. Tons of credibility. Wants a HC job. Could be persuaded to start small.
4) Steve Spurrier Jr., running backs coach at SC, think about getting a Spurrier. #99 rated assistant.
5) Patrick Nix, OC at Miami. #85 rated assistant. He is ready for the next level.
Each one of these guys bring creditials on the field and recruiting trail. If you want a winning program, aim high.
(Like I said I have been looking too).

Let's take a deep breath and relax with all the next coach stuff. Out of respect for the kids and program this does nothing to help us.
No Al Groh, no Nix talk. Please. Nix makes more than we would pay. Plus we don't need a guy like Groh in the twilight of his career. Guy is unemployed for a reason.
We have 10 more weeks and it will be apparent what we are going to do.
Right now, all of this talk is worthless.

The list has to begin with Bateman and Skrosky. Were they even offered the job whenLembo left??..I am not sure. If both these guys want to continue to hang with Pete, I certainly understand. It would not hurt to check their interest however. I would stay away from Div II head coaches...even successful ones. Outside of Chip Kelly and a few others, most talented coaches rarely start at that level (ask GA Southern about hiring DII coaches). Outside the box....Scott Larkee/DC at Harvard. Young coach from a winning, stable program with high academics. We need a bright, young guy who will motivate and inspire. There OC (Joel Lamb) is outstanding as well..but his wife is the HC of the field hockey team at Harvard...not likely to leave. If you think a coach from Harvard cant win at a big-time FCS school...remember Pete came from Lehigh. We need a coach used to be being around and coaching successful kids (in FB and in life)..not the running backs coach from a so-so ACC program. And fc4life...I hear what your saying..buts its a done deal. Only 8-3..maybe 7-4...will save Swepson. The only mystery to all this is if Swepson makes it all the way through. I don't think he does...I think he resigns in the next 3 weeks....

Next Elon Coach:
Rich Skrosky will never politic or use back channels to get his name in the ring, but he is one of the best college coaches out there. When he was at Elon, the kids loved, respected , and genuinely wanted to play for him...He is well respected by his peers, unlike Pete does not want to use a school as a stepping stone.. reportedly did not want to leave Elon but had no choice but to go with Pete.

I agree on Skrosky. I can't think of another coach I respect more. His wife has family in the area too. I'm not sure if he has hitched himself to the Pete wagon or if he might be hoping for the Ball State job when Pete leaves, but he would be my 1st choice.

Shane Burnham, Iowa State. Was at Elon as LB coach and special teams Cord. when the program was successful. Played at South Carolina. Most importantly, he would be interested in the position and knows what it takes to get it done at Elon. maybe our best recruiter in the state of Florida, dad was legend at USF and went to Iowa ST w/ Shane

I think based on some conversations with our administration the last 10-12 months they think we miss Bateman more. I'm not saying that's who the HC will be.Skrosky is great too.

I really like Jay, he is a capable DC and a great #2 man for Lembo. I don't know, however, if he has the same fan pleaser qualities as Skrosky. I think Bateman is exceptional as a DC. Just don't know if he would be as good administratively.

I like Shane Burnham very much too. But we could be getting into the same boat hiring a position coach, (defensive tackles), who has never been more than a 1 year special teams coordinator at Elon. Great recruiter for sure, but that was Swepson's big draw as well.

All of this talk is purely for fun at this point. We don't know what the remainder of the season will bring for our team. Also, regardless of the outcome, Dave & Leo may simply feel that Swepson needs more time to develop himself and the team.

The prior posts indicating Rich S. or Jay B. for the HC job all have some merit and are great coaches. However, the missing reason as to why they probably wouldn't want the job sits in the Athletic Dept. offices. They have experience with this admin. Why weren't either of them considered or hired to replace Lembo? I know at least one of them was interested and probably interviewed,at the time. Both were more qualified than Swepson but were passed over.Other more qualified , external candidates were also passed over or flat out withdrew. Why would either of them now come back and work for the same people that ignored them three years ago? There main problems in hiring a quality coach are not the campus, the conference , the fan base etc. etc. It's internal.

I'm just a fan, but I was educated at Elon, met my wife there, and had 2 young ladies that have and are being educated at Elon as we speak. Opinions are like butts, everyone has one, so I will spew my thoughts. I think all the talk about a new coach should wait until the season is over. It doesn't do the team any good, the school any good or the new recruiting prospects any good. At the end of the year, or whenever it happens, then the speculation can begin. That's just my opinion, and again like butts, everyone has one. I am looking forward to the game on Saturday, it's probably the last time I will see the Hillbillies play and best of all I will get to visit with daughter number two. She's a wonderful young lady, takes after her mother.

elon77, I couldn't agree more.
