Thought I would start a new thread specific to the topic of potential coaches.

Jay Bateman - Ball State - A solid defensive coordinator, he's been trained inside a well oil machine that is Lembo's system. If we go after a coordinator, this is the type we should be after.
Mike Houston - Lenoir-Rhyne - Has turned a very similar type of school in the bottom of D-II into a national top 15 team. This guy seems to be an up and comer!
Jamey Chaldwell - Charleston Southern - Young, dynamic, coach that has turned a doormat Charleston Southern team into a well respected program this year. They have won some good games and seems their lack of scholarships caught up to them in the end.
Jim Collins - Duke - Always seems to be on these lists. Not sure why, I would think someone with his tenure would be higher in programs than he is.
Brian Scott - Old Dominion - Offensive Coordinator on a team that was built from scratch into success
Kerwim Bell - Jacksonville - Does well for 0 scholarships, the worst stadium in the NCAA

How about KC Keeler, former Delaware coach? Has won a national championship and has experience in the CAA.

I'd like Keeler as well. Rumor has it he is one of the top candidates at Albany. While Mickey Matthews has had some success, he's always seemed like a loose cannon to me.
The CAA move should really draw some interest from a lot of good candidates.
Go Phoenix!

I don't think Steve Logan would be interested but if he was yes I would love for him to be the new coach.

Probably couldn't wrong with any of them. I like Brian Scott best and then Jamey Chadwell. I like the quick impact potential of both. I especially like Scott's offensive resume since he started coaching. I also like it that he has experience in recruiting the Tidewater Virginia area. Elon University: Elon is moving quickly. A source tells CoachingSearch.com that Elon has already reached out to Charleston Southern head coach Jamey Chadwell.

We already had a short list, Hopefully we can get one of these coaches on it. Chadwell looks like hes on the move up. Not sure about a coach with one year in D1. He did very well this year but it was with the past coaches recruits.
Jamey Chadwell
Year Team Overall Conference Standing Bowl/playoffs North Greenville Crusaders (Division II Independent) (2009–2011)
2009 North Greenville 2–8 2010 North Greenville 7–3 2011 North Greenville 11–3 L NCAA Division II Quarterfinals North Greenville: 20–14

Jamey Chadwell is a really good guy. Sat with him at a wedding. Young, energetic coach, who will bring some excitement to program and offense... not sure he would bounce after a year at Charleston Southern.. I hope for Coach Browne's sake that he is the guy.

Come on, the man turned North Greenville and Charleston Southern around. In both cases, he turned what previously coaches could not do and got them moving in the right direction.
Not too different than what Lembo did.

The key to Chadwell, Scott or any new hire is understanding that we do have talent here and knowing how to make his system fit the talent for a quick turnaround. That was partially the problem we've had for the past 3 seasons.

an issue to consider with Chadwell is his tenure at Char. So. If he has 3 or 4 years remaining on his contract, the buy out, after one year, would be at its highest. Meaning, if Elon were to play it, it may be prohibitive in adding to the coaches salary. If Chadwell had to pay it himself, his salary would have to be increased to make the move affordable for him. Either way it might make the deal difficult.

My Dark Horse candidate - name pops up in the UAlbany HC search:
Peter Rossomando - 5 years as U New Haven HC with 42-13 record, 2012 Division II coach of the year, was at U Albany 2001-2007 serving in last three years there as OC. Other experience includes position coaching at Suny-Cortland (2000), Northeastern U (1999), and U New Haven under Tony Sparano (1994-1998). Played his college football at Boston U on OL and DL.
Only 42, married with three children, he is involved in many community activities in New Haven. Since he was born and raised in Staten Island, NY and has the first name of Pete, I think he would do well at Elon!

From Burlington Times News:
Timeline for Elon’s coach search could form as ‘moving target’
Fri, 29 Nov 2013 05:22:35 ELON — As Elon embarks on its search for a new football coach, the goal for the end result is clear and concise.
“To find the best possible football coach that we feel fits our program and our needs,” athletics director Dave Blank said.
The framework and timeline for arriving there aren’t that simple to pinpoint, though, with regular seasons winding down for teams on the highest rung of Division I and, a step lower on Elon’s level, the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs set to start.
The Phoenix fired Jason Swepson earlier this week during what likely has been a busy time for some among its developing pool of prospective candidates.
“It’s a moving target because, obviously, many are still playing football,” Blank said. “So it’s hard to say it will go ‘this fast’ or ‘that slow.’ “
For the sake of perspective, Blank’s last search for an Elon football coach lasted 22 days and landed on Swepson, after Pete Lembo left to take the Ball State job in December 2010.
Swepson was dismissed Monday, two days after Elon’s season ended with a 2-10 record, including a mark of 1-7 in the Southern Conference. Swepson’s three years in charge produced combined records of 10-24 overall and 5-19 in the league.
As for Swepson’s eventual successor, here are three names that potentially could become part of Elon’s list:
? Ball State defensive coordinator Jay Bateman, Lembo’s longest-tenured and highest-ranking assistant coach dating to their time together at Lehigh, which preceded five years at Elon. Bateman was considered three years ago during the Elon coaching search that turned up Swepson. His Elon defense in 2009 was one of the most dominant units in the FCS. Now, Ball State is 9-2 and bowl eligible for a third straight season.
? Ball State offensive coordinator Rich Skrosky, another trusted Lembo assistant coach, who was considered for the Elon job three years ago. He was one of Lembo’s original hires at Elon. His offensive system, born from Lembo’s Lehigh stint, has cranked out big numbers behind Ball State quarterback Keith Wenning, similar to Scott Riddle’s prolific days at Elon.
? Charleston Southern coach Jamey Chadwell, the Big South Conference Coach of the Year in his first season, whose Buccaneers started 10-1 with victories at The Citadel, at Appalachian State and against Coastal Carolina, teams that beat Elon this year. Charleston Southern climbed as high as a No. 12 ranking in the FCS this season. Internet chatter already has connected him as a person of interest for the Elon opening.
