I don't necessarily agree with you on that. I think Jay Bateman is highly interested in becoming the HC at Elon. That is unless the money is just way too much at WF if Lembo is hired. Dave Clawson is in the runningfor WF also, so lets not count those chicks too early.

I hear candidates will be on campus the beginning of this week. I expect we'll know by the end of this week... or next week at the latest.

I guess if it is someone that is sort of famous in coaching circles, we will hear. If not so recognizable we will not know.

We must have a coach by Monday of next week. A staff must be built before recruiting starts back after the first of the year.
This is Blank's moment. If he waits any longer we continue to fall behind.

Does anybody have any factual knowledge as to who is "in the running" for Elon job? Who are the real candidates - not just people those of us on the board would like to see hired? I know Blank keeps that pretty quiet, so just kind of wondering if we have anything to know for sure, for example, that Bateman is interested in Elon AND that Elon is interested in him? I presume people who many personally know him (or other candidates) are not at liberty to post what they know. I agree with fc4life - the sooner the better, or we start losing out in recruitment - but at the same time, I don't want to hire hastily. Based on rumor boards...and they are just rumors...it looks like Clawson may be the favorite for the Wake job - if so, would that mean Batemen would be more affordable for Elon, or, how does our head coach pay compare to the Ball State assistant pay?

I saw it published in a newspaper that Lembo's salary last year was $396k. I would GUESS that means that the coordinators would be at or around $200k. It could be higher or lower, that's just a guess based on other lower level FBS schools. I heard the rumor that Brad Lambert, (current UNCC coach), was pushing $300k when he was the DC at Wake. Incidentally, Grobe was said to have been making $2.5M in his last year at Wake.

Over the last 7 years since Blank has been the AD, I have not heard a solid rumor of potential hirees until 2 or 3 days prior to the actual announcement. So, When we finally hear something I would expect an announcement to be imminent.

I hear Chaldwell is out as a candidate. I am hearing Houston from L-R is a front runner so far. I have also Kerwim Bell's name mentioned.

If it were my decision, I would have to choose Bateman over Houston or Bell. Bateman knows the formula well and is well connected in FCS coaching circles. My guess is that versus the other two, he is more likely to put together a winning staff. Would probably be a better recruiter too.

Honestly though, looking at who's decision it is. I would think Houston would have the inside track. Based on previous hires Blank seems to favor the young, clean cut, up & comers.
