Tonight's loss was brutal. Up eight late in the second half and we lose a very big game for the standings. Davidson means nothing if we did not win tonight and we laid an egg.
The Good: Troutman is playing like a beast. Enought said.
The Bad: Our other seniors did not step up - at all.
The Ugly: Out bench. We are barely six deep. Hamilton is a non-factor. Our defense was very poor in the second half. Especially on Cocheran. We did not handle their picks and screens like a veteran team. Very, very poor performance.
We HAVE to win on Sat. Barring a run in the tournament, this has been a disappointing season. Regardless of the streak.

Agreed on the good, bad and ugly. In the Socon it is all about the tourney via NCAA so we can still make history. We were going to have to play two of the better teams anyway (Davidson, Wofford, Chatt, WC).....the downer is that we probably have to play three of them because of the Wofford loss. As it stands now we are going to play in the 4/5 game in the tourney on Sat against Western Carolina, then Davidson in the semis and Chatt/Wofford in the finals (Assuming other seeds win). Both Wofford and Chatty have more winnable games this coming Sat than we do (Davidson) but even if we beat Davidson (which is possible on Senior Night if we play up to capacity) and both Woff/Chatt win we are still the 4 seed because we lost to both Wofford and Chatty. I am going to Asheville and have hope that we can pull it out and make history for Elon.....an NCAA bid. It is just a little harder now than before last night. Go Elon!

I know everyone had these high expectations this year, but how can you call it a disappointing season when it isn't even over yet? If they finish as the 4 or 5 seed and win the SoCon tourney and make the NCAA's is it still disappointing? Would finishing with a better conference record and being the 1 see, but then losing in the semifinals of the tournament constitute a better season? Certainly, overall I expected a little more - maybe knocking off one of the big name teams we played and maybe having a better conference record - but if they made a run to the NCAA's it would still be a success of a season in my mind. Just my opinion on the season - you are entitled to yours as well.

Let's hope last night was a huge wake-up call for the seniors.

We were picked to win the league and we finish 4th...in my book, that is a disappointment.
Barring a miracle run in the tourney, this season will be a big let down. My biggest gripe is that we have had horrible bench play and have not developed the depth in year five.
I hope for the best. However, I'm not holding my breath. Our seniors have played so many minutes due to our lack of depth. I hope they have one last blast. Just think where we would be without Troutman. He is playing like a beast.

We missed an opportunity to make a statement. Perhaps things may work out even with the loss. We will have to put together another good run,...just depends on whether the team gets it together mentally. Some perspective:
Teams have figured out how to attack us. Samford gave everyone the blueprint. Let Lucas get his points...everyone else has to beat us. Our opponents are playing a variation of a box in one. They are extending their coverage to take away our perimeter game. Lucas cannot carry the load by himself. Look at the box score...no senior did anything other than Lucas. We need more inside and mid-range help.
We have no defensive "shut-down" player. This has been an achilles heel for years. We had no one to handle Cocheran. There is no reason he should have been allowed to drop threes on us. The coaches should have made a defensive adjustment. They waited too late to try to stop Wofford's run. We need to have Blake and Hairston on our opponents stars.
We have problems with athletic or physical teams. We got punched in the mouth and did not answer.
Sounds like a ton of negatives, but I have hope. We have a bench which can contribute...they have to play to contribute. It took Coach Matheny 20+ games to shake things up. This should have happened after 10 games at most. Hairston is incredibly athletic and has not been used all year. Our sharp shooters struggle at times. Eddy averaged 26+ points a game in high school. Lucas needs help in the middle. Riley had been contributing, but has disappeared lately. Winters and Dawkins should be used more.
Coach has to do a better job with X's and O's. We wait too late to make needed adjustments in the games. Our sharp shooters need to exercize better judgement and not just launch shots because they have a green light. Launching threes and missing them hurts our momentum. When we are on, we are tough to beat. When we are average, we struggle. Our season boils down to some simple truths...will we be tougher mentally, will we let everyone contribute, will everyone give it their all...let's hope some soul searching gets it done. NCAAs 2014!!!

Davidson took us to the woodshed tonight.....both offensively and defensively. Davidson got the 50/50 balls and shot over 62% from the field. Brooks and Sullivan were lights out. Unfortunately, our seniors did not have a stellar game (especially Jack and Sebastian). The have a week to learn from this because even if we win the 4/5 game against Western Carolina.....we will in all likelyhood see Davidson in the semis. Oh well.....we still have a chance to make history. Hope we are "on" in Asheville. Go Elon.

Pathetic performance tonight. Not much else to say.
We were out played and out-coached. Teacher and pupil.
Total disappointment. Tonight and the season.
Veteran teams should never get blown out like this at home on senior night.
Pathetic.
