The game notes are up on the website so I'll get this thread started.
Nova comes to town for Family Weekend this Saturday for a 3:30 kickoff.Nova is 3-1 having lost to P5 Pitt, and won over a good Patriot league foe Lehigh and struggling Towson and Lafayette. Nova is a rush first team with a mobile QB. Their primary RBs are Javon White 72 - 333, and Aaron Forbes 23 - 242. Their QB Bednarczyk has 40 rushes for 153 net yards, but has 84 yards lost, which tells me he often runs when either the receivers can't get open or on broken plays. He is 55 for 96 for 540 yards, 3 TDs and 2 interceptions. So, he's a pretty decent passer.
On other boards most everyone has been giving credit for our win last weekend to W&M's having a bad game. Except for 1 play, the muffed punt, I'd like to think our D had a lot to do with their bad play. And even on the muffed punt, their punter was so scared sihtless of another block attempt, that he was watching our players rather than the ball, so we even had an indirect effect on that play. So assuming our O can continue to pull off sustained drives, giving our D some rest time, especially in the 2nd half, I think our D will shine. The main thing they'll have to do is contain the mobile QB.
Our O will have to continue to mature against Nova to have a solid game Their D is seasoned. I expect them to be tougher than W&M. But, if everyone can execute, especially DT, I think we have another chance for an upset.
Right now I'm predicting Nova in a close one, but no one will be happier than me to be wrong.

This is a quote from a JMU fan on AGS in picking Villanova to win against us:
"Villanova - not sure what to make of Elon yet. people seem to forget that changes can occur rapidly in college football from one year to the next. need to see more of them, i like Nova's QB/coaching."
No truer words have been spoken.

I wish I could be as optimistic as you! While I think we saw major progress last week, I don't think the player development is quite there yet to hang with Villanova.
Gardner Webb is proving to be a better team than most thought. yes, they lost big to WCU, but it appears that may have been a fluke. The crushed us, took #10 The Citadel to the wire and played a solid game overall at Ohio. BUT, GWU is FAR from being on the same level as 'Nova, and GWU's QB had a field day.
I'm thinking we'll be looking more of a 'Nova win by 3 scores.
Now, watching the W&M.....I haven't seen an Elon defense swarm and play that well in years. I think they'll play physical ball and may hang for a while, but I just don't see it being all that close when the clock hits 00:00.
I sure hope they prove me wrong, but that's what my gut tells me.

Heavy rushing teams scare me a bit with our defense, especially with a mobile QB. I think the big factor in this game will be our offensive time of possession. If our offense can sustain drives and give our defense a break then we might be able to hold off the rusing attack. If we cannot get drives going I feel like the game will playout similarly to GWU where our defense was solid at the beginning of the game but wore down over time.
An interesting point brought up during the W&M game, our defense has allowed 3 points in the first quarter thru 4 games.

I wish I could be as optimistic as you! I'm bipolar with a short memory when it comes to Elon Football.

I wish I could be as optimistic as you! I'm bipolar with a short memory when it comes to Elon Football. That sounds like something that could develop into a debilitating phobia! In all honesty, always enjoy your enthusiasm and opinions on the team. I think we all feel that the team is improving, let's just hope they're able to make another huge leap this weekend.

I'd bet it's more like 21-10. Mobile QB scares me. Running game has to produce and earn first downs or we are sunk. If we turn pass heavy, I fear the INT.

Hopefully they have been able to negotiate things, but this week is a good example of how access to a turf practice field can be important. Availability to this resource would be valuable to every field sport and could carry over to club sports.

Looking forward to Saturday! Crazy to think we are a win away from a top-25 ranking. The guys over at VUHoops.com were kind enough to partner together for a Q&A about their team/program. Check it out: bit.ly/2dDIBJL

If we could put turf on the north upper field & north lower field at the Hunt practice area, all field teams would benefit. Not in favor of turfing Rhodes tho. Until technology gets better, real grass is better & safer. This will probably require another internal battle. Does anyone remember that our practice fields didn't even have lights before Lembo got here?

I've always said a turf field is more important than a new basketball arena. That ship has sailed, though. It's a no brainer. They should turf the inside of the track facility or the North practice field for the football area.
I have a rough feeling about Sat. I hope we are able to handle last week's success and the fact we'll have a decent crowd with Parents weekend could pay off. We are playing a VERY good program. Nova is a 14.5 pt favorite via Sport Bet.
This is the second of an absolutely brutal stretch of games. I'm still wondering how we got this draw.

On point 1, I disagree with you about needing a basketball/convocation center. But it doesn't really matter Schar didn't stand up and say I want to give you money for a turf sports practice field. He wanted a convocation center. On that front, you just say thank you to the big time donors and move on. Maybe another big time donor will come forward and drop $500k (or what ever turf practice fields cost these days). It seems that whenever we have the need, someone always seems to show up. On point 2, I won't say I have a rough feeling, but I am anxious. We won't sneak up on Nova. But I wouldn't be horribly surprised if we pull another one off. On point 3, No Siht! If you look at Nova's schedule, it's gotta be one of the easiest in the CAA this year. (Not that any of them are "easy").

First quarter and we've given up two long drives. We've had one possession and managed one yard. Let's see if the O can do anything on the next possession. Down 14-0.
