I think a strong personality and fire in the belly are considered cons in an Elon coaching search.

It's going to come down to Chadwell or Bateman......and possibly Ruggiero.
I'm concerned at why other schools didn't bite on Chadwell.

from Coachingsearch.com Elon: A name to watch for the Elon job is North Carolina Central head coach Jerry Mack. The Times News also lists Charleston Southern head coach Jamey Chadwell and Army defensive coordinator Jay Bateman as possible candidates for the Elon head coaching job, as they were finalists for the job in 2013.

The only 2 names I've been hearing thru circles on a consistent basis are Chadwell and Bateman.....

I believe these guys could very well be fine choices Bateman would have to put together a staff on the run but would be back into the Pete Lembo coaching tree.

Hoping for Chadwell. 2nd choice out of those 3 is Mack, but coaching in the MEAC is a very cloistered & will likely not translate well to Elon and the CAA. I like Bateman, but not really interested in another non-head coach.

With Chadwell out of the equation, just hire Coach Mack and be done with it! The gentleman won't have much breathing room before signing day.....Mack's a winner, get him in here!

reposting from another thread from Hero sports
Elon will now bring in a coach who, besides having head experience at the D2 level, was the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator for Alabama. Cignetti helped pull in the number one overall recruiting class in 2008, and two more following that finished in the top five nationally.
With his experience in recruiting, Elon should be very excited that they may be able to snag some players who could be FBS players, but could extend their talents at the FCS level. The Phoenix suffered through a disappointing 2-9 season in 2016, a year after going 4-7. The Colonial Athletics Association members have not had a winning campaign since 2010, and have failed to make an appearance in the FCS Playoffs since 2009 when they were knocked out in the first round by Richmond.
HERO Sports' FCS reporter Brian McLaughlin was particularly interested in Cignetti's ability to recruit and trying to get Elon back to contention.
"Keep in mind, the top CAA teams can play with MAC teams and Sun Belt teams in the FBS, and it can go toe to toe with several ACC teams," McLaughlin said. "It's a tough conference, one of the best in the FCS, and to compete you'll have to be able to recruit -- and Cignett's been there, done that at Alabama, NC State and Pittsburgh."
The PSAC is going to miss a coach at the caliber of Cignetti, but IUP should be capable enough to take this as just another bump in the road to contention. The Crimson Hawks are arguably the best team in the history of their conference, but have failed to win the national title, or advance to the title game since 1993, when they lost to North Alabama.
During the announcement by the IUP athletic department that Cignetti was departing, IUP athletic director Steve Roach had high praise for the only coach most of the IUP football players on the current roster had ever known.
"I want to thank Curt for his commitment to the University, the athletic department, and the football program." Roach said. "During his time here, IUP football experienced many successes under Curt's guidance."
The future is now set at Elon though, as the Phoenix look to rise from their ashes of sour seasons, back into contention. As for the Crimson Hawks, the perennial D2 power will have to reload once again, and try to find success under a new head man. Coaching changes are never easy, but they are part of the offseason that every program must prepare for, even if it seems unlikely.

Cautiously optimistic. I'm not trying to bash, but why did he have to drop all the way to D2 from ultra high D1-BCS to get anything other than a position coach gig?
Having said that, I'm behind him 100%. We really need a turn around so this is the place and time for him to make his mark.
