I like it. Head coaching experience and a playoff resume, 53-17 overall. Hopefully will be able to make some changes here as well

I like seeing the recruiting experience with NC State and Alabama. Not that we'll attract those same players, but it shows the skill level he's dealt with in the past.
Go Phoenix!

Will be interesting to see the staff he puts together. Having been at big time programs he may have some contacts. After a quick look at his IUP staff several members have been at IUP for 15 plus years. Don't suspect DC or special teams cord leaving. OC would be interesting hire based on offensive success at IUP. Also could see DL coach and WR coach heading south.

Does anyone know when the formal announcement, introduction reception will be? I am pleased with selection. I have to say this is what most of us would want in this hire. We have to rebuild a winning culture.

Watched a game vs Mercyhurst last season on IUP website an Coach Cignetti runs similar offense as CS. Did see a lot of downfield connections, under Center I formation and wildcat in offense. QB 5'11 205lbs. very good read option QB with Cannon arm. Coach was very enthusiastic with players on field accomplishment...showed excitement rather than expect them to do that...! Of course, only watched one game and team was winners, so could be the reason for unmerited support. I pray he develop sincere relationships with Elon players. Anyone can TALK about caring for players but Showing it reveals true character. As a coach of 12+ years that's a CRITICAL aspect of obtaining allegiance & belief in what one is relaying. Young men KNOW "bull" when they smell it!

article from Hero sports herosports.com/news/d2-football-iup-football-coach-curt-cignetti-leaves-for-elonElon will now bring in a coach who, besides having head experience at the D2 level, was the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator for Alabama. Cignetti helped pull in the number one overall recruiting class in 2008, and two more following that finished in the top five nationally. With his experience in recruiting, Elon should be very excited that they may be able to snag some players who could be FBS players, but could extend their talents at the FCS level. The Phoenix suffered through a disappointing 2-9 season in 2016, a year after going 4-7. The Colonial Athletics Association members have not had a winning campaign since 2010, and have failed to make an appearance in the FCS Playoffs since 2009 when they were knocked out in the first round by Richmond. HERO Sports' FCS reporter Brian McLaughlin was particularly interested in Cignetti's ability to recruit and trying to get Elon back to contention. "Keep in mind, the top CAA teams can play with MAC teams and Sun Belt teams in the FBS, and it can go toe to toe with several ACC teams," McLaughlin said. "It's a tough conference, one of the best in the FCS, and to compete you'll have to be able to recruit -- and Cignett's been there, done that at Alabama, NC State and Pittsburgh." The PSAC is going to miss a coach at the caliber of Cignetti, but IUP should be capable enough to take this as just another bump in the road to contention. The Crimson Hawks are arguably the best team in the history of their conference, but have failed to win the national title, or advance to the title game since 1993, when they lost to North Alabama. During the announcement by the IUP athletic department that Cignetti was departing, IUP athletic director Steve Roach had high praise for the only coach most of the IUP football players on the current roster had ever known. "I want to thank Curt for his commitment to the University, the athletic department, and the football program." Roach said. "During his time here, IUP football experienced many successes under Curt's guidance." The future is now set at Elon though, as the Phoenix look to rise from their ashes of sour seasons, back into contention. As for the Crimson Hawks, the perennial D2 power will have to reload once again, and try to find success under a new head man. Coaching changes are never easy, but they are part of the offseason that every program must prepare for, even if it seems unlikely.

I'm not going to be that guy who says this is a great hire and this is exactly what we needed. He has a very interesting resume as he was in power 5 for 10-15 years and never was able to get a coordinator position. Had to drop to D2 to get a head gig. He's done well at IUP which honestly I know nothing about. The other good thing is he has been head of recruiting at Power 5 schools and a HC at a D2 school. I would like to think our resources are going to be better that IUP so hopefully he can do more on a larger budget.
I think this was an okay hire from paper.i think every one see NC State and Alabama experience and that's is going to equal 3 wins. Not knowing much about him and IUP, let's see what we are saying in December of 2019.
