Nice win last night although we definitely didn't get Charleston's A game and had only 4 guys score, which is a problem. I would get excited but at this point, I feel like every possible step forward is followed by a disappointment. I also see too many problems that will be the death of us. The biggest of these is the offensive rebounds and turnovers. Through 6 conference games, offensive rebounds are 77-43 in favor of the opponents. We have also turned the ball over 71 times (granted, not awful) and get no contributions from the bench except Sheldon once in a while. These will kill us with the poor coaching we already know about and road tests still coming at WM, Charleston and Towson on top of the other already difficult games

Preach. We are a flawed team. Zero bench. Our “system” is chuck and duck. Some nights it’s going to work. Others, it won’t. However, it’s not something that is going to get us to a CAA title.

I was very happy for the win against a very good Charleston team. Their record would suggest they are having troubles of their own, after having been picked to win the CAA. Again, some level of consistency would be greatly appreciated. Meech continues to be the lone excitement generator on the team. I really like the way he's playing this year. I'm just concerned about who will fill his shoes next year. But that's next year. Geaux Phoenix, Beat JMU!!

First, Good win. Still troubling to see so much limited output from the bench.
I will though say I can't remember the last time I saw 5 Elon players averaging double figures at this point in the season....but there's a big drop off after that.

Embarrassing performance tonight!!!
Blow a large lead with less than two minutes.
We should all be tired of this poor coaching and play.

Up by 10 with 1:30 left in regulation and lose by 11 in overtime. Only answer: poor coaching.

A couple things I noticed in the box score.
Santa Ana - Scoreless
Out rebounded by nine.
Second chance points - JMU 15/ Elon 3
The last two points are a reflection of effort. Really, really bad.

Classic Matt "Stuck in Mediocrity" Matheny team and game. Win a good game then follow it up with a loss to the worst team in the conference. It's predictable. It's disappointing. It's unacceptable. I like Matt. Seems like a great guy and has a team of class-act guys year-in-year-out. But unfortunately NCAA basketball is competitive. I don't want to lose the identify of a program filled with class-act guys, but it has been proven elsewhere that you can produce class-act players while winning. I want to love my Elon basketball team, but every year I lose more hope. If AD Blank wants to fill the new stadium next year, change is needed. Another year of mediocrity is not needed. Change brings hope. Hope can put people in seats. Hope can turn this program around. Don't kid ourselves, there is no hope of a conference regular season or tournament championship with Matheny.

Second year in a row officiating late went against Elon @ JMU. Seibring was fouled without question at end of regulation. Elon had an excellent spurt to take control of close game late putting us up 10 points under 2 minutes to play. Swoope had a nice game. He went 3 of 4 down the stretch from line but missing the dagger which would have put us up 4 with less than 20 seconds was large. Santa Anna must be a psychological mess. Three plays by our seniors were troubling to accept. After running some clock with game under 1 minute up 8 Dawkins jacks a three (granted an open look) causing a long rebound leading to a run out transition three cutting lead to 5. Back to back mental/effort errors from Meech who shows he doesn't really want the ball (full court inbounds pass) and to compound matters under 10 seconds leading by 3 isn't up on a shooter behind three point arch. The result losing 10 point lead and game is tied. I couldn't watch overtime after all these mishaps. Elon with this victory could have been first in the CAA conference standings at 5-2. A real missed opportunity.

Phoenix15, you have hit the nail on the head and stated it very clearly and well. I could not agree more

You can recruit 6-8 athletes and coach them to be shooters, but you cannot recruit 6-8 shooters and teach them to be athletes. likewise you cannot recruit 6-4 anythings and coach them to be 6-8.

A real missed opportunity. I know this isn't what you said, but the bad calls late are not the reason we lost the game. We should have been ahead by 20 with 4 minutes to go in regulation. The clean up crew should have been in when all of this was happening. Slow, lethargic and unmotivated appearance, especially on defense. I completely agree that these are all class-act student athletes. And, when they play together, fast and motivated, they do a great job and are fun to watch. Unfortunately, that is every other game rather than 40 minutes every game.

When up three with seconds left. Foul foul foul . Poor coaching again. Players seem lost without direction. This game really hurt. New stadium new coach. Please
