It is great they are doing this. Much needed for years. However, why did they wait to start this end of July when they all knew camp would be starting the beginning of August. Just seems a little dumb knowing that it takes a month to get done. But glad they are doing this. Will help all sports for sure especially soccer, lacrosse.

They had to raise the funds for the field. Money does not grow on trees at Elon. As for the indoor facility, we need to invest in baseball facilities before we break any ground on an indoor facility.

Muti-sport is the way to go. We need indoor facilities for each of the field sports. Removable/retractable mounds/batting cages for baseball along with what they already have beside the field would be perfect. Certainly if you can practice football in it, you can hit infield.

I agree Baseball has been waiting...but your right a multi sport to start is the way to go. Heck turn the roof of the indoor facility into a solar farm and be green about it. Elon love Green or they say they do. use the energy to power the Heat and AC. or sell the energy back to make Money....

I know last I heard Rec was taking over Alumni field house. But I always thought they could have gutted the bleachers and locker rooms that ran under the bleachers and made it a turf field. Obviously not 100 yards but least a place to do work outs in the winter. Baseball/softball could have cages, soccer and lax could use it. Obviously a full 120 indoor is ideal but could have used what we had to turn it in to something. Maryland did it with the old Cole field house I believe.

Please it took 12 years to get a turf practice field." It’s a project that has been under consideration for a significant amount of Blank’s 12 years at Elon". Something smells funny there. I mean most of the northern schools are moving that way for obvious reasons. The ACC schools have them indoor and outdoor however they have the money. APP, WCU, Liberty, GWU, Furman, Campbell, NCCU, and Davidson have turf for starters. Heck Guilford College a Division 3 school not as much money flowing through that program converted their game field. We just got an upgrade from stone age thinking. Now let's get out of the 80's and get with the current times. Its going to take a lot more facility enhancements to keep Cignetti and other coaches Happy. 12 years come on and in one year boom we have a turf field. somethings fishy there. Remember my formula on student fees. 17 million in 5 years cash on hand for facilities. Not including the interest earned. if were the SEC of the FCS then we need to have the Athletic facilities to back that claim up.
Again better 12 years later than never...no time to start on the indoor

On this board we have the idea that money is flowing like flood waters in up state NY. It's not. LITERALLY, when the college gets a gift designated for a specific purpose, they break ground. So when someone on this board flippantly says, "write a check", like it or not, that's what it takes. When the money comes, it will happen!
