Last 12 years.... A lot of facilities have been built, fixed up etc under Blank, however, a lot of that was so badly needed as we were 12 years behind on a lot of this stuff. Any AD would have come in and said oh wow we are so behind we have to fix these just to be caught up, not even ahead of anyone. We had great NAIA facilities but then we jumped up and didn't really stay with the demand of playing D1 till now.
I mean hell there was a gazebo as the press box at the soccer field until a few years ago. Softball was playing at a field that was lower than most HS in NC. We didn't even have a football stadium before Rhodes so yea anything would be better than an HS stadium we shared. I think all the improvements we have made are outstanding, but when you look at what we are coming from anything is better than what we had. It is like the Schar center, an amazing facility but when you look at what we came from, we were playing in a glorified HS gym with a 20-foot ceiling. We were so behind that something like the Schar Center makes it seem like a palace when you are coming from a shack.
The CAA is a very interesting conference in terms of facilities. A good portion of the schools have older facilities in terms of gyms/football stadium. I can't really talk soccer, baseball etc. I mean now with Schar and Rhodes we have probably some of the best two facilities in the CAA. But obviously, we are not just recruiting against just CAA teams.
Oh and there was talk of putting turf in the stadium but it was shot down by a number of people because they liked the grass more.

Oh and there was talk of putting turf in the stadium but it was shot down by a number of people because they liked the grass more. I like the grass more too. I really do feel that turf promotes more injuries and is hotter to practice/play on during the early games/camp. It was a necessary option to add though with our practice fields. It was getting ridiculous to not be able to practice in inclement weather.

The grass is good if it drains well and is maintained. Which it is in Rhodes. The only drawback is really only getting to use it a handful of times throughout the season before it starts to look/play badly. This turf was so badly needed on the practice fields it honestly wasn't even funny. Not only did it not drain but by the end of the season, the fields were mud/dirt in the middle.

While it is a tent it is also somewhere they can go inside in a storm or cold. But I get your point. I think this is a temp fix until they raise money for a legit indoor.

I would just like to point out that they did a 1.6 million facility in less than a year.....without donors. they should be thanking their student body.
Kevin A. Warner, JMU's assistant athletic director for communications, said the initial cost estimate is $1.6 million. That means it will be a modest facility, and also that it does not require approval by the General Assembly.
It will be paid for with auxiliary funds, which largely comes from fees paid by students.

Indoor completed and up and running for JMU. Also Paid for by NC money lol AKA ECU, its paid off in full. That was a smart business decision. NC money pays for an indoor facility. Who runs our contracts and business in athletics. Wish they were that smart....JMU would be paying for something....Hope it was in the contract.

I am sure there is some buy out in his contract but honestly don’t expect it to be very much.
