We HAVE to call some pass plays over the middle. Especially when they are obviously blitzing.

I know that losing Summers and Cheek have had an impact, but, goodness gracious, this team has started fast, but petered out to end the last two seasons.

a gritty come back with Thomson at QB just was not good enough We lose by one. 26-27 Maine stopped us twice in the last two possessions. Davis was a clutch kicker today. Our guys did not quit just could not tackle on 2 kickoffs

Take away the two kick off returns, and the 3 points after the failed onside kick, and this is a completely different game. That being said Maine was as good as their ranking indicates.... and they are the CAA Champions. We made them look not so good many times today. We also doubled the offensive stats. The reason is because we are still a pretty good team that has overcome tremendous adversity with the loss of two offensive super stars..... Malcom Summers and Davis Cheek. Those two players were capable of about 400 yards of total offense on any given night! Anyone who does not recognize that fact is smoking something stronger than an electric cigarette! Also the beating Malcom Summers put on the opposing defensive teams can never be underestimated. JMU’s Coach heaped so much praise on those two great players it took up his entire press conference following our win at JMU. I am not stating this as “wow look at this win” but trying to get everyone to understand what a massive blow their loss was to this team. Our Coaches did a great job of rallying the team and pushed them to remain competitive using their next man up philosophy! They did an unbelievable job!
Now....Jalen Greene is a great kid, leader, and athlete. Today he did not have a great day. D. Thompson did an admirable job moving the team down the field at times. That alone kept Maine’s defense on the field and gave ours needed rest. We have not had that luxury since Davis Cheek was injured. Our defense played a really good game made possible by our offensive production. Thompson made that possible by short throws and taking what the defense gave him. Now Danny is not fleet of foot and he also had one fumble. Over all he played well... being thrown in action against the number 3 rated defense in the country FCS! We are proud of his effort and leadership! He is a great kid and leader.
This team never quit and we are proud of them and all the adversity we had to over come! To Malcom Summers thanks for the effort and the memories of watching Beast Mode! To all of the Seniors thanks for helping turn this program around and showing what hard work and leadership can do. Watching you play Fast, Physical, Relentless, and Resilient made Elon football fun again. I hope the committee gives us a bid; however if not, we could be the best 6-4 team in the country!
If we don’t receive a bid tomorrow, let’s get those recruits into the fold and hit the weight and agility drills and get ready for next year! Go Elon!
We got the bid and play Wofford next weekend. The guys deserved this bid and the committee recognized our body of work. Go Elon!
