We are now facing our biggest test per the coaching staff Win our first playoff game. with a 6-4 record and a top #10 strength of schedule. Where are We?
We are light years ahead of where We were 2 years ago. A veteran team experienced and talented. We have leadership and an awesome head coach with a great staff. Young talented playmaker's from a good recruiting classes and soon to be signed players in the queue. Coming off an 8 win season We made some key victories but these came with a cost. We had devastating injuries to key players where We have gotten production in these areas but mainly only in the rushing game. Our O-Line has been our brightest spot. Heck I could run through some of those holes. Our schedule in the CAA conference is crazy every week is a war. It is still evident that We are pushing it to match up. Going into the weekend I know We are beaten up and hope We can get a game plan for our playmakers. Please add or give your takes.

Our program is at the cusp of breaking into the top tier of the CAA with all the coaching and general philosophy changes over the past couple of years. Great recruiting & training. (I hope our athletics department is taking notes for the future). We have a phenomenal mix of veterans and new blood. This is the recipe for a bright future.

I think We ARE in the top-tier of the CAA a ranking all season and the huge upset of JMU gave us major respect in and out of the conference. the last few weeks by playing peer teams I thought We were a bit over-rated. Mainly because of injuries. a lot to be Thankful for us all.

This is a team that believes they would be a legit shot at the championship, if they would be healthy. If that attitude alone doesn't tell you "where they are" as a program, nothing will. Absolutely incredible transformation.

For instance, I think UofR has a top tier program even though they haven't played that way in the past two years. Same with Delaware. They are coming back now but even when they weren't doing so well as a team, I feel their program, facilities, support staff, etc was there. Obviously everyone thinks JMU is on top, but a few years before we joined the CAA, they couldn't sniff a conference championship. But that doesn't mean the program wasn't top tier to me. In my opinion, the "program" consists of team, coaching, culture, institutional support, facilities, support staff, community and a few other factors, not just the W-L numbers from year to year. URI had a good season this year compared to previous seasons. Do I think they have a top tier program? Not at all. Anyway, as I said, I feel we are right there. Assuming we keep moving forward consistently, we should be solidly in CAA's top tier as a program eminently soon.

I believe the "new" Elon Leadership has and needs to put the hammer down as wanting to be not only looking good but being good. to our opponents, an Elon win for them was a quality win. the 21st-century grads have to show up at away games and also the student body and community needs to show up @ home games events. At this point in time it just not has happened, and it is very evident. The band has grown slowly but a lot of slots of prime seating go un-taken. One can see real effort on AD staff and the IMG connection. I wish our radio connection was available again but the broadcasters are the same and Taylor is the super-phan. Our video coverage is awesome. I really hope our culture keeps improving.

I think we really missed a shot at something amazing this year with losing Cheek and Summers. It seemed like the team gave up in the final minutes of the Towson game. That was just tough to watch. We can't let that happen and claim to be a championship program (which is what Cignetti is shooting for). We are losing a good amount of excellent talent, mostly in Toogood, Oli, Alex Higgins, Messer, Matt Baker, Efrim Borders, Tyler Campbell, Connor Christianson, Daniel Everett, Corey Joyner, and Summers. Like my god, those are some big shoes to fill. But at the same time, we have some amazing talent coming back in Jaylen Thomas, Tristen Cox, Kortez, Matt Kowalewski, Greg Liggs Jr., Daniel Reid-Bennet, Marcus Willoughby, Zach Monson, Davis Cheek, Shamari Wingard, Zack Monson and others. We will have the pieces to reload this next year but it's going to take some hunger and drive from our new guys stepping up to the plate. Many of our OL will not have played in more than a couple games so far, and losing Messer is going to be impactful, I think.
One more challenge that's ahead of us is the crowd. We have GOT to increase crowd participation in football. That comes somewhat from success, but not completely. We need to be active in the community and getting students out to the games. Our crowds were dismal the past few years at times.

I think it's ridiculous to argue over semantics of "team" versus "program" when we agree pretty much completely on everything with regard to the title of this thread. So, I put together a thread in the CAA area to further dissect the Team versus program issue.

There is no comparison to what we are today and what we were as far back as 2011.
Let’s just keep it rolling.

what I saw today at the Wofford game on ESPN3 is or was a really gritty effort by the defense only to be defeated by our nemesis a Cheekless offense. I am not going negative but I saw a lot of potential in our freshmen that were pressed into duty. I am sure Coach will retool this winter and spring. We have to get bigger, stronger & faster all across the board. I am sure after signing day We will be making some strategic changes that will start a new thread.
