Per Adam Smith BTN it looks like Boiling Springs, Daniel Thompson is starting at QB if his local peeps show it could give us a visitors boost in attendance, thoughts?

DT starting is an easy call. All he has to do is manage the offense. Give us an average passing game (200+ yards) and let our running game run. He doesn’t need to win the game for us.

I don't think he needs to win the game for us by himself, but I think given Wofford's strengths in the run D, if we do win, we will be looking back and saying that he was a big part of that success. He has to be successful for us to be successful this weekend. And I think he will be successful (250+ yards, 1 or fewer interceptions, at least 1 TD, >70% passing). If he does that, we should be able to open up the run game and let Jaylen Thomas do his thing.
The people that beat Wofford don't run up the middle. They stack the box and shut down the inside run game. The people that beat Wofford get around the sideline using their speed and misdirection and beat you in open space. We have the tools to do that, but we HAVE to be smart about playcalling. Short passes to the flats, out routes, the occasional long post route to mix things up, sweeps, off-motion or on-motion side-to-side handoffs (potentially to Kortez, but mostly to Thomas) where we have the option to hand the ball off to the motioning player or keep it, and the occasional dive to mix things up.

I agree with HoidOfYolen's offensive analysis.
As for WOCO's offense, its basically a two RB set, with the QB optioning to either back or running himself (he runs about 1/3 of the time, even split between backs who are rotated with backups). Their QB really sells the fakes. They typically have 2 Wideouts also. They will pass from this formation (with play action/option) , but they will also run a one RB set that they pass from more often (3 - 4 WR's). Their passes are typically in the 5-15 yd range with a few in the intermediate range. Though they have two pro-size tightends they only occasionally get passes to them. Generally they distribute the ball pretty evenly between the WRs. Overall they'll pass about 20% of the time. They will generally get their yardage on the ground (6 yds per or so). As to the OL its big with each lineman about 300 lbs.
On the D side their DL is about 300 lbs each also. So running straight into their DL, with no play action or option action, usually gets snuffed. QB taking off every so often will help out also. See Hoid...'s analysis.
The idea is to keep with them. Ideally force their hand by scoring early.
Weather forecast is 80% chance of rain before 4PM, high about 53 and low for the day about 41.
Go Phoenix!

Hoping that the team plays their best tomorrow. Then whatever happens, happens.

Just getting back from the game. Looks like the whole CAA crapped the bed. Yikes.
Hats off to the defense on doing everything they could to give Elon a shot. Hopefully Cheek is back 100% and stays healthy next year. At some point they need to win one of these.

So correct me if I am wrong, but there were some severe clock issues during the game IMO. During the 4th quarter when we needed to conserve clock is when I noticed it but maybe it happened all game.
There were mulitiple instances of our guy going out of bounds and the clock starting fairly quickly afterwards. Shouldn’t it stay stopped until the snap?
There where multiple instances of Elon getting a 1st down and the clock stopping, but starting well before the chains were reset. Shouldn’t the clock stop until the chains got to the new mark?
Even when we called TO later in the 4th it ran for 6 extra seconds and Cignetti had to plead our case to get that time back, which they eventually did.
I am not saying we lost because of that - there were other issues at play today. BUT, that put the pressure on quick based on time/score scenarios. If the home team controls the clock who checks them? An on field official? An extra off field official? Is it 3rd party?
It is just irksome when you are trying to come back against a team that manages the clock in a run oriented offense like Wofford.

Other than that...
I thought our D did a good job based on what they were up against. TO’s clearly hurt us and we could have made more of a game of it without them. On O I thought we kept it too simple. Maybe a factor of DT playing, but why run it between the tackles all game when they kept getting stuffed by Wofford (who is a top 10 team against the run in FCS I believe) as opposed to some misdirection or outside stuff?
It was on the road, but possibly more Elon fans than Wofford - they struggle with the same thing we do apparently.
Just my brief observations from being at the game.

On out of bounds plays I think it only stays stopped in the last five minutes of the half. For the first downs, they changed the rule this year or last for pace of play reasons.

this game gave me Deja-Vu of the crap We endured watching #11 for 2 seasons. He sucked just enough not to be able to win. I think We needed to go back to Greene in the 4thquarter just to give us a running option. 2 turnovers sealed our fate in the second half. Just looking at the freshmen wideouts We have to get the darn ball to them.

Ugh.... two years in a row games we could have easily won. I know it’s one of those we’ll look where we were a few years ago compared to now and I am happy to be here but this is a little frustrating. We are a good tram this year it was injuries to Cheek that did us in. Great season but again just another season of doing so well in the first 2/3 to fall on our face at the end. I’m great full for for this success but as all people I am not just satisfied winning 6-8 games and getting into the playoffs to lose to an average team like the last two years. We beat JMU which was a great experience but honestly to me doesn’t mean much today. Great season guys. We lose some good experienced talent that will need to be replaced. Hopefully Cheek is back at 100% come fall camp.
Oh and I’m sorry but all these people were like DT has to start to win this game and then you get the same Kid we saw under Skrosky and we are going to act surprised? And say oh Greene should have been playing but 4 days ago you said he sucked. I never thought Greene was good, I think he is an athlete who can run and not throw to save his life. We need to bring in a kid, maybe this has already been done who is going to back up Cheek as a legit QB.

Our Defense kept us in the game.
Our Offense was very conservative. No misdirection, no play action, no running to the outside, no sweeps etc. No QB runs off fakes. The 4 and 1 run play in first half at the 35 was sad - I like to throw a pass in that situation. QB made some bad decisions throwing into heavy coverage over the middle at least three times (once an INT, twice in the endzone for INC's) when there were open receivers in the flats. I would have used Greene on the short yardage plays in the backfield with DT either as a decoy or to run.
Give Wofford D a lot of credit. They stacked the box on the short yardage plays and had line penetration for most of the day. Great open field tackling - the first guy usually got our guy down.
I didn't realize the extent of our injuries until the graphic on ESPN3 that pointed out 11 starters from start of season out with injuries.
Considering the injuries a good season. Time to move on to next year!

may take this to a new thread but looking to the future, look who We ended up with on the field with playoff real game experience. it looks optimistic from my point of view. We saved some redshirts that hopefully pays dividends
