They had fun spending Thanksgiving break in California in someone else’s dime. I’m not sure who is our developmental coach or our who is responsible for breaking down game film but it is indeed evident that the entire staff needs to be let go. We don’t not develop players year to year and webdi not make adjustments game to game. If and when Matt departs the staff should be let go as well. Fires the entire staff. The lack of development and support from the assistants probably stems from the fact that Matt just likes to hire his former players as assistants, rather than go find someone already qualified for the job. It’s a shame that we have allowed him to run the program for this long without any success. Our new coach (assuming this is Matt’s last year) is going to need at least 3 years to overhaul the roster before we can have any level of success or expectations, because Matt has built a team with no depth.

"I think we found out quite a bit about our team this week," said head coach Matt Mathney. "We had as much fun playing and we were as competitive on the court – particularly over the last two days – as we have been in a long-long time. It's unfortunate that we didn't get to enjoy the sweet taste of victory but we grew a lot as a team and we leave this tournament very encouraged about the continued growth of this team in the near future."Glad to see they were having fun losing all three games. Matt never says anything of substance. It's all cliched one-liners that never reflect the state of the program. It's like he's coaching a little league team that no one has expectations of. I guess you can get away with it if no one is holding you accountable. 24 turnovers last night, but they had fun. Go Phoenix! That quote sums up this program. Also, can we go back to how this team had 24 TURNOVERS! Are you kidding me??! I watched the first half of the game and it was like watching a elementary school game. That might be offensive to some mediocre to good elementary school teams too. Say what you want about the talent of this team, but no D-1 team should be coughing up 24 turnovers in a game. Find it amazing that we are only #270 out of 353 teams in KenPom.

Ahhh yes, the old "we were competitive and had fun" quote.... if this isn't eye-opening for Mr. Blank than he should be fired as well. I get it, we are not a basketball powerhouse but we go 0-3 in this event? That is pretty low. He won't get fired mid-season but I am struggling to be positive at all toward this team and this staff. Senior led team and the number of mistakes we make every game. It is really sad. Only thing I can say from a recruiting standpoint is "hey come to Elon, you have to be better than what we have" ... I am curious to see what our conference record ends up being, only thing that is going to save him his job, which that shouldn't even be an option but knowing Elon and Blank it still is.

Just wait until they win by 30 tonight and we get the "we played with a lot of confidence" quote, completely ignoring the fact that it was Central Penn. Go Phoenix!

This year the team has 5 senior starters. Our head coach is in his 10th year. We finished dead last, last season and have started this season 1-4 against D1 competition. And yet this head coach, with all the experience our starters have, believes after losing 3 straight games to mediocre teams, that his team is as competitive as they have been in a "long-long time". What does this say about our recruiting, our "system" and our player development? He just called himself an incompetent fun loving guy if you ask me. After reading this response I can't tell you how effing PI$$ED OFF I am to know that it was all about a bunch of $hits & giggles to the team.
