It appears others are courting your coach.

They are. He’s already turned down one offer at least. He likes it here. His family likes it here. He’s wise enough to know that the grass is t always greener... He might get an offer he can’t refuse. But it would have to be a dream job.

This is encouraging. I think that it is important to recognize why Cignetti is successful here and why that is so rare for Elon. He (and his staff) is good at his job, 100% football, experienced, and somehow not a threat to anyone. I hope the assistants and the S&C coach are also getting strong support. Consistency is important when trying to move to the next level.

Can you tell us which job he turned down?
I mean I agree grass isn't always greener, Brohm turned down Louisville to stay at Purdue but he always got a couple more million in the pockets. I am sure Elon was never his dream job but he left a school his dad was a legend at to come to Elon... so I wouldn't say it takes a dream job for someone to leave. Just the right opportunity and the right pay check.

I think with a salary of over $355,000 plus bonus, benefits and perks he is doing fine. Its Burlington NC the cost of living is not that high. It is in the middle of nowhere and was a textile town. labcorp owns the town now. Its in between greensboro and raleigh. I am sure he is getting paid more than the last coach. So I am sure he is very comfortable. Now on the facility side Elon is short but with winning and making it past the first round it will come in time and and with the artificial turf practice field we join the 21st century.

Congrats JMU on getting a solid coach.
Shame on our admin for letting him go, especially to another CAA school. Can’t blame him though....

“We got out-bid. No issue with that since we would have taken a bath with funds our school does not have.”
From a post on 11/19. This attitude is what drove cig to jmu.
Walk around campus. Elon is flush with cash.
Why stay, when there is little commitment to the football program?
Elon could have easily kept him and saw this coming. The administration knew cig was being pursued and didn’t do anything about it.
Almost 48 hours and no decision on a HC. Kiss the assistants good bye.
Really shameful for this to happen.

Have got to say, this looks really bad on Book and Blank. Early in the season with the success we were having funds should have been being raised to ensure retention of coach Cignetti. Embarrassing lack of foresight by two of the school’s highest paid employees.

Have got to say, this looks really bad on Book and Blank. Early in the season with the success we were having funds should have been being raised to ensure retention of coach Cignetti. Embarrassing lack of foresight by two of the school’s highest paid employees. This falls 100% on Cignetti’s shoulders. JMU has an undergrad enrollment of just under 20k and the financial resources they have to play with blow Elon’s out of the water. JMU has an indoor facility. And a massive stadium that they sell out. Absolutely cannot compare Elon and JMU. We will always be a stepping stone. We need to establish what North Dakota State has established which is build a program and promote the next Coordinator up when our HC moves on to greener pastures. When NDS lost their HC this season they promoted internally the same week. In today’s landscape it is 100% unrealistic to expect to hold on to coaches that win. Being ready for these moments falls on Blanks shoulders and each time we’ve had to make a hire it seems like it comes as a shock and we are scrambling to hire somebody.
