Have got to say, this looks really bad on Book and Blank. Early in the season with the success we were having funds should have been being raised to ensure retention of coach Cignetti. Embarrassing lack of foresight by two of the school’s highest paid employees. This falls 100% on Cignetti’s shoulders. JMU has an undergrad enrollment of just under 20k and the financial resources they have to play with blow Elon’s out of the water. JMU has an indoor facility. And a massive stadium that they sell out. Absolutely cannot compare Elon and JMU. We will always be a stepping stone. We need to establish what North Dakota State has established which is build a program and promote the next Coordinator up when our HC moves on to greener pastures. When NDS lost their HC this season they promoted internally the same week. In today’s landscape it is 100% unrealistic to expect to hold on to coaches that win. Being ready for these moments falls on Blanks shoulders and each time we’ve had to make a hire it seems like it comes as a shock and we are scrambling to hire somebody. Agree with you to an extent... As an administration, you need to hold onto your coach for at least three years, especially when just turning the corner. Letting him walk could take all the positive momentum away from the program and set us back several years. One more solid year under CC might have allowed us to have a really strong base... I think right now there is a ton of instability, and from my perspective, the blame for that falls on Connie and DB.

I dont think our administration nor the board of directors gives a crap. Last time connie book was at elon she was a professor and really did not like athletics. Just as long as the northern kids parents keep writing big checks for the university is all they care about.

Just as long as the northern kids parents keep writing big checks for the university is all they care about. A few of the people writing big checks and a lot of those writing medium sized checks DO care about athletics. My best advice to Book is to hire a college sports consultant to review the situation and give her advice. The OVERALL state of athletics at Elon is a slow decline over the past several years. we aren't at the dumpster fire stage yet, but we're getting there. There is certainly no overall trend upward with the exception of facilities. So, I don't think she can trust anyone in her employ right now, not to be wearing rose colored glasses.
