Welp - looks like Blank will be busy looking for a replacement.

Wow! Didn’t really expect that. I thought he’s stick it out another couple of years & go FBS.
It scares me to think about what comes next. Blank was 1 for 3 in football. He’s really only hired two really good coaches during his tenure. Cignetti and Smith. Now Cignetti’s gone.
We need to really analyze why Cignetti would jump to another FCS team. This next hire is going to be pivotal. If this next hire doesn’t work, we either need to think about an overhaul of the athletic department or simply get comfortable with second rate for the foreseeable future.

He doubled his salary, But they JMU could have done this 2 weeks ago. Cheap move on their part. We are NOT a destination school as home attendance especially from the Students and Community. I know He like all of us want to feel appreciated. He was from Me. I know He should move on in JMU fashion in 2 years. Will be at an ACC school soon enough. I really wish him well!

He jumped because of the total talent, established JMU brand and its impact on recruiting. They are loaded for consistent runs at an FCS Championship. I’m sure they made it worth it on the money side as well. Probably total compensation in the 600-700k range like Houston was making.

Elon leadership is such a joke. This loss by itself is not the end of the world. Combine it with the complete trainwreck we have across Elon athletics and the inability to take action unless forced to is the real problem and this is yet another example.
We're sitting at the kids table and our leaders are proud to be in the dining room with the adults.
Go Phoenix!

The 425k does not include other incentives

Well guess the board of trustees really does not want Athletics to build a brand. Just rich parents or donors to keep writing checks for the school. Truely a Wake Forest school make the best and leave....JMU has a better alumni support, better facilities and plans. They are following up on those plans as they have the support system. Im sure Cignetti will be a FBS coach soon. This hire looks to make that transition seamless. Also this is not unusual. Look at Delaware they took richmonds coach some time ago. So my bigger question is what coach can come in and continue success and leave as well. We are always going to be a revolving door. Not unless we get someone who wants to retire at their last coaching stop for like 5 to 10 years and wants to have their name in elon history. Also with a support system like the alpha dogs why not go...Look at what they have done www.slideshare.net/JohnStreicher/alpha-dog-description

well Like I said Elon is the Wake Forest of athletics the university is about academics if sports suck so what.. does not matter. If they are good then a bonus but don't expect a retirement coach at Elon and consistant winning at elon. Its going to be a revolving door. Also the Board of Trustees and President are the key here. There must have been a disagreement somewhere in a backroom. This was kept super quiet.......not even on football scoop.

As I stated before right opportunity and more money. Everyone was talking a few weeks/month ago how coach would never leave. He is sticking around. He loves it at Elon.... blah blah blah. He took the money. He took the better football team. Better fan base, larger budget, more passion, more helmets, better history.
The Elon job was not a job many wanted when Skrosky took it or when Cig took it. I honestly thought JMU would get someone better than Cig. I am however not surprised he jumped at all. I am a little more realistic than some people who were thinking that Cig would stay for reasons like he doesn’t care about the money or the moving up to take a better job. Not many coaches in today’s world are like that. You don’t see coaches staying at small schools for long.
Moving in conference is very odd. i know Delaware took the Richmond coach two years ago.
In the end JMU is a better spot plain and simple. Some might not agree but then again these same people thought Cig was going to finish his career at Elon.

From JMU board:
This is a post from an Elon fan on their boards before the announcement was made:
"One of the reasons Coach Cignetti and his family came to Elon was he and his family wanted to come back to the triad. Appalachian and JMU aren’t in the triad. Money does talk but Coach is not motivated only by money. He enjoys being happy and doing his thing and left alone to run his program! At Elon he calls the shots and is not required to do the things the larger schools require! I think Coach “C” is driven and has unfinished business to take care of at Elon. I like his work ethic, independence, his demeanor, his family. He does things his way and can continue doing that at Elon. Not so much other places. Bigger is not always better. He found that out at Alabama! That being said he needs to be paid more money and the assistants as well! That being said Coach “C” is special!"
Man, that sure does sound familiar! We should create a support group together. I think we all learned a lesson through this: coaches don't care about their school anymore. They are all looking for that next job. The family stuff is just a lie told to make fans feel good. The era of the good ole ball coach who lives down the road, walks to the stadium on gameday from his house, eats at the local diner on Sunday after church and is a pillar of the local community for 30+ years is dead and gone. Today, football coaches are more like mercenaries.
While I'm hoping Cignetti's age makes him appreciate stability a bit more than Houston and maybe he decides to stay at JMU and be the one to take us to the next level, I also wouldn't be surprised if he leaves in 3 years after winning a championship
