Matheny oughta be ashamed of himself. When that jacket goes off he is supposed to mean business but his team didn’t get the memo. Absolutely disgusting.

Our strength of schedule is 312 out of 353 and yet we are 3-11 against D1 competition. Yawn, nothing to see here.

1 point lead going into half... lose the second half by 15. I didn't see much of this game but I checked out the box score... fast break points were 16-2, Points in the paint 34-22. 2nd half Drexel shot 59%. Elon shot 2-12 from 3 in 2nd half.
Another game of a completely different story from 1st to 2nd half.

It is truly remarkable - reaching into last year - this cycle repeating itself.
Again...
Play close- get the lead - lose the lead - lose the game Play close- get the lead - lose the lead - lose the game Play close- get the lead - lose the lead - lose the game
Over and over, and over, and over...

Seems to happen often.
This may not be popular but considering this job was rated the worse job in the conference and has the least resources of all.
Could it be Matheny is doing a good job coaching/preparing but the lack of horses cause us to lose out eventually?
Coaching at elon in CAA must feel like taking a Dodge Neon to a drag strip.
Yeah...you are in the race and you technically have a chance but really....you have zero chance.
I think most at Elon realizes this...they dont expect titles cause the resources is not and will not be provided.
I dont think they will stand for 2 or 3 wins in conference play but as long as Elon is at 5-8 conf win range and competing and not finishing dead last then they are satisfied.
Will the diehards be satisfied? No. They will be hyping up the new upgrades on the neon only to be waxed at the drag strip again and again but wonder why they aren't winning.
It isn't the driver. It is the Elon.

It is the Elon. I hear what you're saying, but it's kind of like Fedora and UNC football. It wasn't Fedora's fault that there was a cloud over the program due to possible NCAA sanctions, but he got canned anyway. Problem is, like Fedora, Matheny has a loser's stench and will have a hard time recruiting talent necessary to compete in the top level of the CAA regardless of salaries, budget and facilities.

It is the Elon. This a loser mentality. Sure, Elon could always dedicate more resources to the program. But in no way, have we not made a strong commitment. We are fully funded with Scholarships. Our coaches have the money to go to all the large AAU tourneys to recruit. This comes down to coaching, recruiting and player development. Simple as that. We have players who are on full scholarship that are not good enough or have not developed in our system. These facts hurt but are 100% true. This all boils down to the staff and the man at the top.

Name 5 players that were better in their sophomore, junior or senior seasons than they were in their freshman season. Hell, name 3.

I can absolutely name 5 that were worse. Unfortunately, they were our most athletic players over the last 10 seasons.

There are schools with way less “resources” that are more successful landing prospects.

You may be on to something but Brian Dawkins became much better offensively from his Freshman to his redshirt Junior year.

I liked this line of thinking about player development in program:
Top 5 players most improved in order of development while in program over past 10 years
1. Brian Dawkins (body make-up post moves and perimeter shooting 2. Sebastain Koch (almost reached potential offensively driving and shooting) 3. Riley Beaumont (became a little tougher/ competitive) 4. Chris Long (better scorer) 5. Sheldon Eberhardt (passer offensive contributor)
Disappointments Elon plays not developing to their potential or no improvement or decline I could name athletes. I think it is more a negative reflection on the athlete than the coach if I named them so I will refrain.

I would disagree on 2&3. Definitely agree on 1. I would say 2&3 did not get worse but did not get better freshman vs. senior. Koch's best year was his Jr. year. He regressed his senior year, as did Eisenbarger. Beaumont did get better overall, but his Jr. year was his best as well. I'll give you Chris long as well although more because I just don't remember his getting better or worse. I like Sheldon Eberhardt's passion. He seems to be frustrated with the losing. He is a great 1st half player. He just doesn't show up in the 2nd half as well as the first.
