I’ll just post some facts.
5-12 (two wins vs non-NCAA teams) 1-3 in CAA play 333 of 353 D1 teams in KenPom ratings 312 in Strength of Schedule rating 3-19 in our last 22 D1 games
I’ll stop there.
What a train wreck.

Apparently the team is exactly where he wants it to be. In the teleconference he spoke of the team being in a good place and constantly improving. He also said that the team is right now gives him "joy". I listened to the teleconference yesterday and couldn't help but wonder if Matt is having some kind of psychotic break. I honestly don't see any representation of the team he's describing on the court. I do, however agree that Santa Ana is having a great year. He had a great freshman year with a lot of promise, then had rough sophomore and junior years. Now as a senior, he's really performing up to his original promise. Hopefully, this team WILL improve and pull the season out of the doldrums to finish strong.

Constantly improving? They've lost three in a row and 5 out of 6 standing at 5-13 so far. Does Matheny get fired? I was talking with Patrick Stevens, college basketball writer who I see at George Mason and he said it's a bad sign when a new President sees a lot of empty seats in a new arena. I love Elon Athletics and support them when they come up to DC and take a couple road trips a year back to campus to watch them so this is sad to see.
My guess is no, Matheny does not coach this team next season. I'm sure he is a nice guy and all but the last two years have been miserable. Change is needed IMO.

Mason struggled in the new conference at first, but has made some strides and finished 5th last year and are considered a threat to win the conference despite an 8-8 record (2-1 A10). I thought Elon would be in the mix for the CAA this year but I was wrong. Still hoping they get on some roll but it doesn't appear likely. Edit: Elon to CAA '14-15 season, GMU to A10 '13-14 season

You really thought Elon would be in the mix for the CAA this year? What were you basing that off of exactly? I don't mind people having different opinions since that is what these things are for, but give some real basis at this point for any positive thoughts because the rest of us are fed up and angry at a program that has been ruined

Swoope’s injury was a setback. Also thought they would defend a lot better than they have this season. For a bit last year they were doing well in the CAA but collapsed. I was thinking at this point they should have been 10-8 or so. Definitely not 5-13. Guessed wrong. Not the first time, won’t be the last.

We were last place last year, and lost two starters going into this year. We’re not turning it around, we have a team half filled with division 2 level talent.
Mathenys in game coaching is bad, but end of the day he’s responsible for bringing in the players. Next coach needs to be a big time recruiter.
