Wow, getting turned down by Big South coaches. Jones was making roughly 200k a year at Radford.
Elon is going to be a tough sell.
Rumors he turned down App State as well though, so hey....we are still on the same level as App State in some regards.

Rumors he turned down App State as well though, so hey....we are still on the same level as App State in some regards. Well, I would imagine the extension probably included a raise. We probably weren't offering much more than that, and even if we were why would he leave a program that he has lead to success to make a lateral move prestige-wise to undertake a rebuilding project? Makes much more sense for him to continue his success at Radford until a bigger name (paycheck) comes calling rather than start from scratch somewhere else (Elon, App State) that has no benefits in terms of pay or exposure. This is why I think we are unlikely to find an active head coach and need to look for young assistants with ties to major programs (either as assistants or players). We need someone who wants an opportunity to prove themselves...a head coach who has already proven themselves won't see any benefit to coming here and someone who hasn't...well...why would we want them in that case?

Interested to see who Elon ends up.
I am guessing we will end up with somebody not as good as Bobby Lutz.
He would take the job and win quickly.
Instead we will end up chasing some unproven assistant and keep losing in a new gym.

Instead we will end up chasing some unproven assistant and keep losing in a new gym. Why are you so sure he would take the job and/or would win quickly? If he were such a hot commodity surely someone would have been eager to snatch him up when he became available (2 years ago), and he said last year that he was comfortable staying retired and would be very selective about any potential offers that came his way to return to coaching. He's already declined one job offer (unclear what that offer was and how it compares to Elon but assuming it was D1 it probably compares at least somewhat favorably).

He won at Charlotte coaching against Bob Huggins and Pitino.
How many times has charlotte made the tournament since he left?
I would take a coach with his record over assisant with no HC experience.

Mike Schrage, Ohio State asst. (and longtime Stanford asst. under Johnny Dawkins) was on campus today (Wednesday). He was spotted touring the Schar Center. I assume he was also formally interviewed.

He would be a really solid hire as far as first time coaches go. Team manager as an undergrad under Bobby Knight, longtime administrative role at Duke under K, assistant to Dawkins at Stanford and Chris Holtmann at both Butler and Ohio State. He's been a strong recruiter at Butler and OSU - don't follow Stanford at all to know how he did out there.
Pretty sure he makes more as an OSU assistant than Elon was paying Matheny. Wonder if that will be an issue at all.

Maurice Joseph is just 33. He was thrust into the job after GW’s Head Coach Mike Lonergan was fired by the school in September 2016 (Lonergan got screwed over by the former AD there). Joseph did a decent job considering it was his first head coaching job but this year just sucked and they made the move. I saw him numerous times while working games for George Mason and he came across as a decent guy. He’ll get another shot someday. Maybe Elon looks at him?

Matheny to the Boston Celtics?! Heard it here first folks.. I assume you're joking, but it wouldn't surprise me just because of the Isenbarger connection to Brad Stevens.

I understand this is rather unlikely, but Bryce Drew — recently fired at Vanderbilt — would be a fantastic get. Imagine he'll probably have better options (St. Joe's, maybe), but think he'd be a splashy hire and a good fit.

If Schrage is the hire, should be out before the weekend.
