Marcus Sheffield a 6'5" Small Forward from Stanford is Rated a four-star recruit by Scout.com, which has him tabbed No. 89 overall and the country’s 17th-ranked small forward . This will be a huge asset to Elon giving them much needed experience. He will be a Senior and immediately eligible. He along with great Freshman coming in like Hunter Woods, Hunter McIntosh and Zac Ervin is going to make Elon Basketball exciting again. Exciting times for sure.

Very interesting to see the grad transfer coming to Elon. Always, heard this would be a challenge with the admin at Elon.
I am not going to say this is an amazing get but it is a player who has experience, show the young guys the way and has minutes under his belt.

He did well at Stanford and I think playing a consistent Power 5 schedule he will add great experience. He has certainly played at a higher level than the CAA for a few years. Perhaps he will really excel here. We will see. I am assuming this is a connection with our new Head Coach and his Stanford ties. I seriously doubt he would be bringing in a Graduate Transfer unless he thought he was really going to contribute.

I transferred to Elon with mediocre grades from a no-name college and I'm not even an athlete. I would think a guy in good standing at Stanford would have little trouble getting admitted, doubly so if he is a D1 level basketball player to boot.

I read somewhere that Sheffield is a redshirt junior. As a grad transfer, isn't it rare to have two years of eligibility left?

There are a few every year. But Sheffield isn't one of them. He played three seasons at Stanford and only has one left.

Grad school admissions can be a little trickier and the athletic department doesn't get any leeway the way it does with undergraduate admissions. On the other hand, a Stanford grad who was also an athlete would have to be near the bottom of his class or have a terrible GRE to not get admitted in several of Elon's masters programs.

One big asset is that He does know the Schrage System and also a big step forward for our Graduate Programs to attract quality transfers. we need to get away from stinking thinking, and quit making excuses. We really have raised almost all our sports teams and will continue to do so. "Stream-On"
