Another interesting game for sure. It was great to pick up the road win. The offensive performance in the first half was, shall I say - OFFENSIVE. The D held us in the game and all credit should go to them for controlling a solid offense. In the second half, we were effective and I think broke the will of URI. They may have some talent but their efforts in the season half showed why they are winless in the CAA.
Offense: First Half - F Second Half B+
Our passing game was off for some reason in the first half. Our line play was suspect and having to go to a trick play showed we were struggling. I applaud the effort in the second half. We were clinical and went back to our strength a quick passing game that opens the run and allows for some shots down field. I still think we need to find ways to get the ball win the run game. We tend to be very predictable in run situations.
Defense: A+
We bent at times and to their credit never broke. We were able to contain their passing attack by keeping most of the throws underneath. We did get caught a couple times down the seam and our soft coverage on the corners is frustrating at times. We made the plays, though. Kudos to the whole unit. One thing I noticed watching the replay after watching live, we are dropping Liggs in as almost a safety at times. One instance led to his interception.
Special Teams: A
No blocked punts and all kicks made!
Coaching: B+
Can’t give an A with our performance in the first half on offense. However, they kept pounding and earned a very good road win. Let’s hope we find three four quarter games coming up. We have no margin for error the rest of the way. I do love the spirit of this team. They have not folded after the debacle at UNH. A round of applause to everyone in the program.
We need a big and raucous crowd on Homecoming Saturday. We need to pound W&M, a team coming in with something to prove.
