I decided to torture myself and re-watch today’s game. Not sure why. I saw it once and it was just as bad a second time. I’m not sure what is in the water at Elon but we are now 4-23 in November games since 2011. 2-8 since ‘17. Our program folds like a napkin come November. I’m not in the business of calling out players. However, our program has issues. I’m at a loss for what it is. Please help me with that. It was obvious today that our kids mailed it in. Maine wanted it more, just like W&M last week. They were there to win, we were there to do nothing.
Offense- F We were dominated again at the point of attack all day. We were not sharp in any phase of the game. We gave up six sacks had two turnovers and were 5-15 on third down. Our scheme seems to have regressed and the play calling has no imagination at all. I’ve seen more sophisticated calls in D3 games.
Defense - D We had a freshman backup throw for 322 yards. Our DBs looked lost. It was downright comical watching us try to cover especially on the reverse pass for a TD. We got some stops on the middle of the game but the damage was done.
Special Teams - C We fumbled a kickoff return and that sadly sunk us. It’s pretty sad that our fake punt was the lone big play.
Coaching - F We looked lost. It is as simple as that. They were flat as a pancake and were run out of the stadium. Maine wanted it and we did not. We’ve gone from a team that made back to back playoffs and team with plenty of veteran players on all sides to one that has shown no hunger at times and very inconsistent. It’s weird. We’re going to need some changes. Not sure what it is but something is not right. We’re going to have losing season which stings. Man, it’s frustrating.

Hard to argue. The reverse was a killer especially when the Maine passer gave the TD sign before he passed it. He could have easily ran it in as well!!

Get ready for a blowout loss next week. Not a good matchup.

Need to look for a new OLine coach like yesterday.
It doesn't seem like our players can run even the simplest of schemes, much less more complex ones. I saw a whip route run by Kortez last week for the first time ever and Cheek couldn't take advantage of it because he was sacked before Weeks even made his break. If we can't execute on the simple stuff, there's no point trying crazy stuff.
Even still, the playcalling is baffling. No RPOs? Running on first down when you need to score at least 25 points in 30 minutes (halftime), then 21 points in the last 8 minutes? NOT DOING 2-MINUTE DRILL UNTIL THE ACTUAL LAST 2 MINUTES OF THE GAME?? Do they just not practice that at all? We seem to do well in 2-minute drill. Why not do it continuously when you're down 28 points after 12 minutes of regulation? It would make the game faster, and ease up the dependency on the OLine to hold for longer. Just baffling.
