Team plays well, gets a good lead and slowly watches it diminish and chalk up a loss. This has been so frequent over the last number of years, it appears to have hung around.
I really hope this team can use this as a teaching moment to play really hard to the very end - EVERY game.

I do like what Hunter Woods did last night though. 18 points and 9 rebounds. George Mason recruited him also and when Woods announced Elon I thought it was a nice get for the Phoenix. This is a growing year it looks like but I think the future looks good.

I agree the future looks bright, but this was a bad loss.
UP by 10 early on....let HPU take the lead.
Up by 12 with about 6 to go....it goes to OT.
Have the lead with 1:30 to go in OT....lose the game.
On another note, Elon is currently the only team in the CAA with a losing record, with 2 others at .500.
They'll learn, they'll build and their confidence will grow.

Kudos to schedule game with local High Point. Didn't get to watch the game. I have a ESPN plus hangup. I pay a $200 plus cable bill with sports package already plus Hulu and Netflix costs. ESPN+ wants $10 more dollars to watch Elon basketball for three games. I just can't do it but I'd gladly pay $15 for a seat so I listened to the game on radio which was broadcast way behind live stats updates. I do love listening to Wes Durham. If Elon had a back-up point guard they would have a victory last evening. Extra opportunities for opponents is this team downfall with turnovers and offensive rebounds. Elon was out rebounded 34 to 26, The big problem was giving up 11 offensive rebounds. Elon played another game with more turnovers than assists. I couldn't see the game but fouls were definitely not balanced Elon shot 11 free throws to 30 High Point free throws. I realize 8 FT shots were end of overtime fouls but still 22 FT is double the amount of free throws.

I went to the game last night. I too still feel the future is bright. We had definite flashes of brilliance and most everyone contributed. Woods and Ervin both had great nights. The biggest trouble we had last night is Sheffield had an off night, going 3-14 and 2-2 at the FT line. You can't blame Sheff, because everyone's gonna have an off night from time to time. But when your best player has an off night on a freshman laden team, confidence takes a hit. Hunter McIntosh also had an uncharacteristically off night. He only scored 3, had 4 turnovers and fouled out. Our biggest problem right now is we need an effective big man. Hannah just isn't big enough and Poser still needs skills development. One thing to remember about HPU is that Tubby Madden is in his third year of a rebuild. So, his players have more maturity. Also, Schragge got after Jamie Luckie, (ref that is well known for getting his panties in a wad), and afterward there were a number of blatant no calls when our guys were fouled and several insignificant touch fouls were called against us on the other end. That, although, was not the cause of the loss.
One other observation: Elon students could take a lesson from HPU on how to support their teams. Their tiny gym was packed with students that were into the game, on their feet and screaming the entire time. My ears were LITERALLY ringing when I left. And, not trying to hurt feelings here, just stating facts, but their pep band blows ours away.
One other comment. When I went to check the game stats on elonphoenix.com, they weren't there. I had to check them on ESPN. The box score should have been up within an hour after the game.
