Last game of the season and final game for the seniors. Would love to finish the season with a big win at home!

A win would be nice. But Rhode Island needs the win more then Elon does. Elon will finish at 5-6, under .500 again for the 3rd in a row.
Curt Cignetti 2017-18 2017 - 8-4 2018 - 6-5 Total - 14-9
Tony Trisciani 2019-Pres. 2019 - 5-6 Spring 2021 - 1-5 2021- 5-6 Total - 11-17

No the record hasn’t been great the last couple years. But I think Elon players are going to treat this game like it’s their Bowl Game! Elon wins by 10 and knocks Rhode Island out of the playoffs.

Tons of injuries and chaos along with the scheduling of having to WM, Richmond, JMU 2 times each. He's really only had 2 years and he definitely has benefitted from a lot of Cignetti's guys. But at the end of the day, comparing Trisciani to Cignetti is unrealistic because Cignetti could very well end up being a Power 5 coach if the opportunity presents itself. He may be the best coach Elon has had in the D1 era. Trisciani has done a fine job since he's taken over. There's not much more you can ask for finishing at or above .500 in the CAA. Elon's ceiling is 4th or 5th in the CAA on any given year there's just not the expectation and resources like a JMU/Delaware. As long as we aren't bottom 3 consistently like under Skrosky there should be no reason to get rid of him.

Virginia Tech now has an opening, but I think Cignetti will stay with JMU in the Sun Belt Conference for now.

Covid was a world wide problem, Not just at Elon. So yes it counts. Counted for the other teams that played in spring too. I keep forgetting that Elon isn't a football school. Just wish they where I guess. Really would like to see this football program get in the playoff. I don't think waiting to be in the top 24 in the FCS is to much to ask of Elon Football. College football is a big money maker for these schools.

What schools do you mean when you say college football is a big money maker? We're in the CAA at the FCS level I'm fairly certain no one is making money. FCS has no substantial media deals and only get on the ESPN networks for the second round of playoffs and even then there's a lot of money going out to host the playoff games. If you're trying to compare us to JMU they're just in a different headspace than us and everyone else in the CAA which is why they're leaving. Outside of JMU, it's pretty much a wash of who finishes at the top each year. Yes, Nova Richmond New Hampshire Delaware are generally up there, but in the last 4 years we've been in that mix of teams. I agree I'd love for us to put a ton of money into the athletics programs and be in the playoffs year in year out or making the NCAA tourneys, but it's Elon and we're in a tough conference. If we wanted to be dominant we could go to the Big South, but then you're only getting 1 team in instead of 3+ for football and most likely would've have the same caliber of recruits

I believe we can win this one, but it won't be easy. URI and Phoenix are statistically very evenly matched, despite the Rams' better record. They lost to Towson and Maine, whom we defeated. Both Rams and Phoenix beat New Hampshire, 28-3 and 24-10, respectively. Both lost to Villanova, 44-0 and 35-0, respectively. Rams beat UMass, but so did Maine. Our battles with them in 2017 and 2018 were close, 35-34 and 24-21, respectively. In 2019 we beat them 38-13. They have a chance to make the playoffs for the first time since 1985, so I'm sure they'll come in highly motivated. We have a chance for a winning season, the first of Trisciani's tenure. Davis Cheek will surely want to end his career with a win and a winning season. If he's hot, Phoenix will be hard to beat. If Phoenix defense plays as they did against Richmond and New Hampshire, we should be able to stop the Rams. My prediction: too close to call.
Go, Phoenix!

Awesome way to end the season….beating a ranked team, finishing with a winning season, and guaranteed at least a tie for 3rd place. I certainly didn’t think the season would have produced 6 wins, so not afraid to admit I was wrong Congrats to the team!
