Really weird headline on the press release. “Blank concludes service as AD”. Never seen it worded like that before. It’s like he finished framing a house or something. Let’s get an AD who understands NIL, and can fundraise. Despite all the noise, the Elon job is still attractive, and should attract some good candidates. It was time for a fresh voice and perspective. Interested to know however if he is being nudged out.

It has been time. I appreciate all Dave has done, but his foot has been off the gas for a while now. It is time for a new, fresh voice that will push this department forward.

Wish he wasn’t involved in succession process. Elon must nail this hire. And then give the AD full autonomy on hiring/firing current coaches

Agreed on making the right hire. It's definitely time for a change, but we can't screw this up. I know we've all been critical of Blank, and rightfully so in many cases, but things could definitely be worse if we bring in someone in over their head or focused on their image and not Elon. I keep thinking of the W&M AD debacle.
Will be interesting to follow over the coming months.
Go Phoenix!

This^^^^ I hope they hire an experienced search firm which is specific for sports admin hiring. I can't imagine Book, Noltemeyer, Williams, Piatt, Anderson, et.al. undertaking this strategic search and hire.

Was talking to a few people today and apparently the University has had a large number of important searches this year, including the Provost and several Dean positions. I am not sure if they would hire a search firm vs. an on-campus search committee considering search firms are really, really expensive.

I really hope they don’t go cheap on this. The AD position is vitally important to the entire university. It can (and should) be our most important marketing vehicle. We also really need to hire externally. We should not promote from within this time.

I am not sure if they would hire a search firm vs. an on-campus search committee considering search firms are really, really expensive. We have the ability from within to make academic hires. I trust Book and the trustees to do this. I don't trust ANYONE currently employed at Elon University to make a sports/athletic hire. NO ONE. This is why we need an experienced search firm to do the ground work. Mark my word, if Book and the current Administration and board of trustees try to do the job, it will be a total Sh*t Show. For once, Elon Admin, make a good decision with regard to sports, Let someone with experience do the job. PLEASE!!!!!

What a joke this is. Elon is not hiring a new director of student housing. This is the AD for heavens sake!! Also, there should be no current coaches on the committee. In the real world, you don’t get to hire your boss. Ridiculous. And why is there a current student on here? What possible acumen could they bring to the table??! Answer: none!

When I see this committee, I can’t help but think: “Tell me you are small time, without telling me you are small time”….

Can't help but feel the same way. I was hoping one of the coaches on the list would be replaced by the new AD, but this puts whoever is hired in a precarious spot because they were involved in hiring them. They may stumble into a good hire, but up front this says we don't have any one person capable of doing the job. Since we don't want to hire a firm, we'll just create a committee where if we swing and miss there's no real accountability. Go Phoenix!
