This is pretty cool...
Coastal's Thigpen inks Reebok deal By Ian Guerin - The Sun News Tyler Thigpen's professional football career is still in doubt, but Reebok seems to believe in him.
On Tuesday morning, the shoe and apparel company inked a one-year contract with the former Coastal Carolina quarterback. Thigpen's agent, Joel Turner, said he couldn't be specific about the deal, but he did say it was a "mid-five-figure'' contract.
The paperwork became official just four days before the first day of the NFL Draft, which will start Saturday. Thigpen, if drafted, is considered to be selected in the later rounds.
"The deal we got isn't a standard deal with too many people,'' Turner said. "It's commensurate with what a day-one draft pick would get.''
Turner said he has never received an endorsement contract of this type with any Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) player he has represented. The deal does stipulate that Thigpen make an NFL roster in order to receive payment.
Turner, who also negotiated with Nike, said that shouldn't be an issue.
"They wouldn't do the deal if they didn't think he could do it,'' he said.
As part of the contract, Thigpen will have to appear at various Reebok functions. He could eventually land on posters and, depending on any future success, a television commercial. He is also expected to wear Reebok apparel.
