My opinion is that Elon has the edge in personnel and player experience, Davidson has the edge in Coaching experience and home court advantage. Should be a tight game. A lot will depend on motivation and intensity. Neither team has exhibited consistent high intensity on the season.

Davidson, and really the rest of the season comes down fixing a few huge problems.
1. Defense. If I see Troutman just stand on his tiptoes to try to get a rebound, I might just throw something at him. He has a huge vertical jump, but refuses to use it on defense. Our guys are just playing like they don't give a crap anymore. Coach Matheny needs to Google toughening up drills and use them to get these guys harder and meaner.
2. Offense. We have a good team, but we're not one of those teams that is good enough to get fancy with every shot. Troutman and Riley trying to do fancy shots under the basket is getting old. Simply layups, off the backboard, are still points and win games. I wasn't expecting us to beat Duke by any means, but the shear number of uncontested layups that they missed anyway was just embarrassing.
I don't know what happened to Koch and Jack. They both used to be automatic when it came to 3 pointers. Now, they're just so off. Same with Tanner Samson from the beginning of the season.
If Jack, Troutman, Koch, Riley, and Samson are all on their game, all game, we can beat anyone in the SoCon and we can advance in the NCAA tourney. If they keep bringing this garbage to the court every game, we'll be lucky to even advance in the SoCon tourney. They tried to lose against the Citadel and App, but thankfully they pulled the win out.

Quite the thrill following on gamecast! I tried to watch their video stream but it kept on locking up. Very frustrating! I finally had to turn it off & watch game cast from our website. And people say our video sucks...

Quite the thrill following on gamecast! I tried to watch their video stream but it kept on locking up. Very frustrating! I finally had to turn it off & watch game cast from our website. And people say our video sucks... I will not spend money for another school's broadcast...first of all those streams are all notoriously bad, even the ones that show bigger time teams. I also don't see any reason to stuff money in Davidson's (or anyone else's) pockets, even if its just a fraction of a $5 charge. Still, might have been worth it to see this one! Davidson-Elon seems like its good for overtime theatrics pretty frequently these days (at least I remember at least one huge one a few years back when I was there)! I miss having all the home games free on ustream, that's for sure.

The Davidsoncats.com bunch are generally a classy bunch. But there are always the detached and the whiners. Just a couple for your enjoyment:
"For those if you who couldn't see, the third, fourth, and fifth fouls on Brooks were pure, unadulterated garbage. It is not a coincidence that their run started the moment he went to the bench with his fourth. The difference between Brooks and Troutman is that Troutman did his damage when someone else was guarding him. Bootz chewed up Troutman and everyone else. Brooks was the best player on the floor by a mile (when he wasn't getting hit with ticky tack BS fouls, that is)."
"The good news is that even with a senior-dominated team, we're better than they are."
"Yeah, I don't necessarily want to look for the upside of everything, but I think it is clear that this team is the class of the Southern Conference. When they're playing with intensity and aggression, they are pretty dominant. It felt like they turned it up in the second half, got the big lead and took control of the game. Like Coach said in the post-game, maybe they can learn from this to take that 14 point lead and make it 20. They might have been able to coast at the end against Furman and App, even widening the lead, but Elon kept playing, and playing well."

I wasn't able to follow the entire game, but congrats to the team on coming back from such a big deficit late in the game. However, I watched the highlights on Davidson's site and my god if we didn't try to let them recreate the miracle they pulled off at Alumni a few years back. Elon's got to get better at inbounding the ball against the full court press. Sloppy at the end of OT and they are lucky it didn't cost them.
Anyhow, good to see the fight during regulation in a game they could have easily given up on. Let's see what they do on Saturday night.
Go Phoenix!

Big win for us! As for Davidson fans I agree most are classy however I sat beside some very obnoxious fans last year in Alumni Gym.
