I honestly don't know what to say. What has happened to this team? It looks like we have no mental toughness at all. If we can't muster better than 39% shooting and have no defense! then we may as well just hang it up. What a disappointing season.

I believe a couple things:
* we have no depth. * we are not athletic enough to create our own shots. * we live and die with our perimeter game. * EVERYONE in the program loved reading about themselves leading up to this season. Administration included.
I can only imagine how bad next year is going to be.

Administration included. I can only imagine how bad next year is going to be. This about sums it up. I hardly even post anymore, because I feel like I'm saying the same thing after every game. As much as we all ripped Swepson during football season (rightfully so), Matheny has to be the one to take responsibility for all of this. He's managed to take the exact same team (for the most part) and make them worse. Do I think he's a bad coach? No. But this team is uninspired and his recruiting since he brought in the "big 4" his first year has been mediocre at best. The remaining schedule sets up well for this team if they decide to show up, but at this point I don't expect a whole lot. I'd love to be proven wrong. Go Phoenix!

The entire SoCon schedule sat up well for this season's team. But so far we have been smoked by two, at best, mediocre teams and beaten by one of the worst teams in the nation. While watching us play App and el Cid, the team looked like they had something better they could be doing. As a team they look to have no heart, no intensity and no mental toughness, especially as compared to last season.

It's kind of how I feel. I am tired of complaining about the teams and the school and its making me really apathetic about being a fan.

New to the boards but an Elon fan through and through. The ship has not been sailing smoothly this year, but it can be righted. Everyone acknowledges that this level of disappointment was not expected. Some facts:
1. This is the first time Elon has been the hunted. Every other year Elon was the hunter. 2. The senior group has never been in this position before. 3. Coach Matheny is in unchartered waters.
What is expected. and needs to happen, is for the group (the seniors and Coach Matheny) to acknowledge they need help. 20+ games and we still haven't figured it out. The talent needed to help the team is already there.
We were fortunate to get some good players in this year. What should have been a balance of old and new, did not occur. The first few games we saw the potential in the freshman class. The seniors should have exercised better leadership and insisted that the freshman be given the opportunity to help. Coach Matheny should have done a better job and let the freshmen contribute. This year should be the beginning of MANY NCAA appearances.
It is not too late. While we have not been in this position before, I believe the team will look at the bigger picture and get the job done. Yes, the freshman must be allowed to help. At this point it's bigger than the senior group and Coach Matheny..will a legacy begin that will cement the senior players as the start of a new tradition? Will Coach Matheny have the courage to play the needed players regardless of class? Heroes don't come everyday, but I'm betting that this team will do something heroic. NCAAs, here we come!!

I agree about the freshmen. Hairston is an athletic beast. He may not be a prolific scorer just yet but he's a great rebounder, which we sorely need. Leddy pushes the ball and drives the lane very well. as well as Hamilton IMO. He doesnt have the passing skills of Austin just yet though, but I think he's our 2nd best point guard. Dawkins hasn't been a scoring machine but has contributed some very solid minutes in the paint.
