Defense was obviously the area of need with 9 of 13 signees on that side of the ball.
* Emphasis on North Carolina
* Surprised only one QB - we have only three scholarship QB's on the roster next year.
* I loved Lennon on film. Big and rangy with some speed. Jackson as well. Some wheels for a LB/DE.
That being said...they are all great on signing day. Let's see how they play in a couple of years. One other thing is that we have built some depth and size on the roster. Boy, will we need it

Anybody get to the luncheon? Wondering if we anticipate picking up any more guys - looks like a quality class but fewer than I anticipated.

I was at luncheon - very good turnout. No word on picking up additional players other than the goal to have 95 or so on roster by summer. Focus of meeting was to discuss the signees. After various introductions, Coach S and Coach Browne described players while watching highlight film. Things I noted from Q&A ... Udoh is only 16 years of age and the 373 lbs was most recent Elon measurement and weight is not from excess fat, so he could get bigger! Diamond in the rough as this was only his 2nd year of playing and only 1st on the OL. Also from Q&A - the spring game will be more of an all day event with morning golf tournament and afternoon tailgate. Depending on player numbers the game will be designed to be more of a game. Based on other comments, it looks like the 3 scholarship QB's could all be in the mix for starting job. No discussion of what offense or defense to be run - I think coaches want to get a chance to evaluate players in the spring. Lastly from Q&A: The 9 D to 4 O signee ratio was based on current roster having more O than D players.

I was there and I think they have all their spots filled remember there were 2 big classes prior to this season. They picked up most of their needs look at our roster now. Video clips were impressive Big kid from Fayetteville/Sanford is not 17 years old yet and weighs 373 lbs. that's no typo. Think of the food bill his parents are saving on and he's not fat, fat. lol. We have guys coming on D that can play all over hybrid/ several positions as well.

Thanks for the info - hard to believe that kid is only 16 - wow. I remembered we had a lot of kids come in last couple of years but thought some had fallen off the roster, so did not know where we stood. Finding myself getting excited about Elon football again, but then, it's easy to do that after all the positive news on signing day.

addition of 2 tall receivers 6-6 & 6-3 with good hands really adds our "smurfish" returnees
LB's & DE types on film look like they can tackle Lefty QB has a better arm
Spring practice begins March 31 I am sure the next 2 months will sort out the wannas from the wannabees.

Lefty QB, Christiansen has a very quick release. Udoh looks like one that slipped through the cracks. He has only played o line for 1 season. That's probably why he got few looks from other programs. He could be outstanding with a couple of years under the right oline coach. Like whoa said, lots of hybrid defensive players with excellent athletic ability. I'm encouraged to say the least.

I too thought the class was a little small until I checked the roster of returnees. Backing out the current walk ons, there are 51 on scholarship. Adding these 13 makes the 64 scholarship limit. The roster now sits at 77 in all so if coach wants 95 bin camp, they need another 18 walk ons.
Some good academic profiles in this class also, the 373 pounder is an honor student. Must have skipped a grade to be a senior at not yet 17 years old. I may have to make a trip fro here deep in the Yucatan just to see him!

Here's the Times-News article:
Elon likes stock of new football recruits By Adam Smith / Times-News Published: Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 01:08 AM.
After hustling under the restraints of a significantly reduced recruiting window and squeezing in home visits that gave his car’s odometer a workout, new Elon football coach Rich Skrosky’s first signing class arrived Wednesday with several likeable qualities.
? Seven of the 13 players who inked national letters-of-intent are North Carolina products, the manifestation of an in-state focus that Skrosky has emphasized since taking the Elon job Dec. 12.
? Nine signees play defense, where areas of need were addressed on the defensive line and in the defensive backfield.
? And it’s a group that contains diversely skilled additions, with the term “hybrid” used to describe a handful of the recruits.
“We feel good about what we got,” Skrosky said. “We think the commonality is they can all run, and I think everybody wants that.”
Linebackers Bruno Anyangwe of Clarksburg, Md., and Johnathan Jackson of Moore, S.C., and defensive linemen Daniel Everett of Williamston and Anthony Mullis of Concord are similarly sized, athletic defenders who could be used in an assortment of speed-based roles on the edge.
Jackson is from Dorman High School — the same placed that turned out Elon safety Miles Williams — and was coached by Dave Gutshall, formerly of Cummings High School. Mullis, who played at Central Cabarrus, is the son of former NFL tight end Ben Coates.
Defensive back Chris Blair (Ball State) and 302-pound defensive lineman Marquise Wright (Rutgers), transfers from college football’s bowl subdivision, are expected to have a chance for immediate impacts. Both already are enrolled in classes at Elon.
Cordell Forrest, a heavy hitter from Charlotte, and Malcolm Galloway, a member of two Georgia state championship teams from suburban Atlanta, project as contributors at defensive back.
Defensive lineman Josh Armstrong of Fayetteville verbally committed when the now-fired Jason Swepson was Elon’s coach. He became the first prospect Skrosky visited. And as Wednesday’s national signing day approached, the recruiting race intensified.
“There were a lot of miles put on my car last week,” Skrosky said. “It was Greenville to Williamston to Greensboro to Charlotte to Spartanburg to Atlanta.”
Elon landed quarterback Connor Christiansen from Fishers, Ind., a player Skrosky, the former Ball State offensive coordinator, met more than two years ago at a summer camp. Christiansen, a lefty, had interest from bowl-level programs Bowling Green and Northern Illinois of the Mid-American Conference.
In the future, he figures to be throwing to receiver Tre Lennon from Greensboro Smith, a potentially a big target at receiver, given his 6-foot-3 frame and another attribute.
“He’s a tall kid that has big hands,” Skrosky said, “like, massive hands.”
No recruit among Elon’s class is more immense than offensive lineman Olisaemeka Udoh of Fayetteville. He’s 6-5 and 373 pounds — and not yet 17 years old.
“He’s got a lot of tools,” Skrosky said. “When he gets hold of you, he latches on, and you ain’t getting off.”

I haven't posted in a few months, I've been in the process of moving, but I've kept up from time to time. I was really interested to see who we landed with a new HC at the helm.
I like this class. Looks like a pretty solid group of student athletes. I see that Christiansen is listed as a dual threat QB. It will be interesting to see how he fits in to the mix, or if they'll red shirt him.
I'm really interested to see where we'll be 2 years from now!

I'm really interested to see where we'll be 2 years from now! it is just my humble opinion that red-shirting is never a bad thing in fact at our level it probably help our program more than getting JU-Co talent which basically is a short term fix.... get a guy in the program and get him up to speed so in his second or third year you have a 3 year starter. Our Roster is filled w/ these players but if a guy can play better let him on the field. but We need contributing 5th year players to win championships and be play-off worthy.
