Sadly I will be at PuckHogs wedding in Gboro, sooo close yet so far. I think the sports gods are messing with me because baseball is in gboro too this weekend.

Unfortunately, we have to miss it this year - hope there is a good turnout.

Any insight into who our starting QB will be this year? Everything I'm reading says it's a toss up between Quinn and Loughery. I'd almost prefer to go with Loughery if it's close - that way we get him the experience he needs to be more successful his junior senior year...

Agree on that. If its close, give it to the younger guy.

Gentlemen,
Do you all realize Quinn threw for 2600 yards and 17 tds last year with an offense that had an OC with no identity.... He wasn't a world beater but he was a bright spot on an otherwise dismal team. Quinn will start and have a good year under Skrosky- a guy who recruited him.
Loughery was a Swepson guy and was given every opportunity to win the job last year and couldn't do it. Nothing against the kid, he will have his chance in another year.
Worst Case Scenario- Loughery wins the job- Quinn is set to graduate in May- he transfers to another FCS for grad school or takes a job on Wall st. Then you are left with Loughery and a true freshman... This isn't Notre Dame and Quinn isn't Tommy Rees.
I don't know either kid or the new ball coach but I think he is being vague on starters for the good of the team....he knows who is gonna play.

Coming off a 2-10 season We are not good enough to have any incumbents or positions that are etched in stone. Let the Head-Coach develop his philosophy and personnel. One thing I would hope is that We could get some players playing experience. We need depth and guys that want to win. Only playing does that. What is wrong with platooning? I know some players get lost in the shuffle those who show That can compete and if some of these idiot cry-babies do not get it , then get the hell off the field. Stats can show trends, but look at previous years 17 TD's and 2700 yds, really is anemic. We have to have play-makers. on both sides of the ball. I am guardedly optomistic.

I completely agree. Elon has been bad for 4 years...I also understand the idea of giving younger kids a shot and some experience. My points were that I don't see Loughery being that guy. Thats all. Maybe the freshman is good, but I doubt he can step in immediately. I would take Quinn's stats last year over Wilson's numbers his last 2 years. He threw more interceptions then I ever saw a QB throw. He was the rally killer in games.
I watched every game last year and I'll say Quinn wasn't the problem in most games.
off the top of my head. Wofford: Drove team down to 4 yd line to win game and they call 4 running plays Western Carolina: 330 yds passing , 3 tds
I am just looking at it as - he took his lumps which weren't that bad last year and will be better this year.
maybe I am a sucker for 5th year guys, but I think he built up some equity...

Well remember we had a 5 year guy that just moved back to QB (Pope), who was suspended his senior year. We put in our freshman and the rest is history

Well. No questions were answered Saturday... QB will be determined in Aug. both played avg. gotta curve the game since the D has been going against offense 14 straight practices.
Also. Wes Pope was a converted TE and would have been the starter his fifth yr if he didn't get kicked off team. Riddle was a one a decade player- so don't hold your breathe for another riddle to come along soon.
Brighter side. Pope played well at qb in Skrosky/ruggiero/lembo offense. So I am confident whoever is the qb they will at least manage the game

So I am confident whoever is the qb they will at least manage the game Wes Pope was the most unlucky guy in Elon's history. He was not a TE convert. He was a QB shifted to TE to keep him from overshadowing the starting QB who was the Coach's son and severely sucked. (This was the primary reason Paul Hamilton was fired, by the way). Pope was the starting QB for Lembo's 1st year's team and did a respectable job. Would Riddle have started his first year if Pope wasn't suspended? We'll never know. What I do know is that Lembo was serious about starting the best player regardless of tenure. Expect the same from Skrosky. Pope was suspended because he owned up to cheating on a TAKE HOME EXAM. He was suspended by the honor court, which is made up of students. He was a great HS QB and Elon was lucky to have him. Agree with the last sentence. Neither of the two QB's on the roster now are Riddle caliber. Put 2" on Riddle & he'd have played at USC & would be playing in the NFL right now.
