Breaking down the 2014 roster: Quarterbacks 5th year senior starter Mike Quinn returns and is backed upped by John Loughery a Swepson recruit and 1st cousin of "Matty Ice" Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons. Quinn is a solid starter but is not any type of running threat. or has not shown it so far. Coach Skrosky's offense is centered around a great passing game. My reasoning #1 for why He was hired. He was hired as his track record is so solid in this area. A balanced running is also important. But We do not need to be turn-over prone. #1 Our Quarterback play must improve and includes play calling. 7 Mike Quinn QB 6-3 202 Sr. Wayne, N.J. / Wayne Hills 9 Conor Hughes QB 6-1 175 Fr. Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge 11 John Loughery QB 6-5 216 So. Wayne, Pa. / Hun School 12 Connor Christiansen QB 6-0 180 Fr. Fishers, Ind. / Fishers 13 Joey March QB 6-0 186 R-Fr. Loganville, Ga. / Walnut Grove Message from the grapevine: Don't count out Connor Christiansen as the 2014 season starting QB.

I am continuing this but thought I would be getting a bit more feedback Breaking down the 2014 roster Offensive Line This is probably the most critical area of any football team and We have some athletes with size and power. A lot of work has gone into developing this group no doubt but We have some depth. but injuries always make this group a patchwork in recent seasons. anyone have a clue as to a depth chart here? 53 Ty Alt OL 6-2 265 So. Sewickley, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic 57 Haris Cesko OL 6-4 263 So. Grayson, Ga. / Grayson 62 Rev Ford OL 6-2 277 R-Fr. Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Country Day 63 Dakota DeYent OL 6-3 309 So. Tallahassee, Fla. / Lincoln 65 Ikenna Nwokeji OL 6-5 254 R-Fr. Randolph, Mass. / Thayer Academy 66 Tobin Finizio OL 6-3 275 Fr. Kinston, N.C. / Arendell Parrott Academy 68 Jack Williams OL 6-0 246 Jr. Avondale Estates, Ga. / Woodward Academy 69 Gordon Acha OL 6-4 280 So. Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury 71 Austin Sowell OL 6-4 277 Sr. Knoxville, Tenn. / Knoxville West 72 Jeff Schaeffer OL 6-3 288 So. Bethesda, Md. / Univ. of Charleston 73 Olisaemeka Udoh OL 6-5 373 Fr. Fayetteville, N.C. / Sanford 75 O'Shane Morris OL 6-3 294 So. Bronx, N.Y. / Iona Prep 76 Thomas McGuire OL 6-3 275 Jr. Ames, Iowa / Gilbert 77 Jacob Ingle OL 6-2 281 Jr. Burlington, N.C. / Williams 78 Austin Richardson OL 6-4 274 So. Kernersville, N.C. / East Forsyth 79 Graham Albright OL 6-6 283 R-Fr. Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central Probable starters, again from the grapevine: Acha, Alt, DeYent, Ingle & Sowell. This is an area where we should have some talent, based on last year's returners. How it will work out is anyone's best guess. This is another area where Skrosky will have a little better than Lembo did when he first came.

looking at 373# recruit Udoh I was afraid He might need a 3 digit number but he made #73 He is young like 16 or 17 so seasoning may be a priority project.
#78 OT Richardson a converted TE has good feet
strength & conditioning got a lot of these guys to get lean & hopefully mean.

Julius Moore & Jeremy Gloston are top returning tacklers. as is sole returning senior is Akeem Langham #2 Miles Williams returns from hip injury that gained him an extra season's eligibilty but do not like that kind of weight on a DB is a quick trip to the linebacker corps. Ball State Transfer Chris Blair is bonified player as is recent recruit Malcolm Galloway could be promising at corner.

Whoanellie - I know you aren't getting much feedback/discussion, but I for one appreciate your breakdowns...thanks for doing this. Looking forward to this season - hope we have a lot of fans show up for the Duke game. Ordered my tickets this week - and so glad it's a 6 PM game so it will be only hot - not brutally hot.

It's good information and challenges me to think about the finer points of our team. Carry on.

The D backs area is one in which we have been traditionally weak. Not that we haven't had any talent over the years, we just have lacked an overall great corp. I'm looking forward to what this year will bring.

a lot of our better hitting DB's especially safeties that get bigger wind their way onto the linebacker corps as well as slower linebackers end on the D-Line.
honestly I am not looking at CAA school's offensive schemes as of yet but I do not believe We shall see a lot of triple option offense but I am sure it will be a lot more physical across the line of scrimmage on both sides.

I suppose I have a very "wait and see" attitude about this season. While I think the previous staff completely fouled up the last couple of seasons with terrible play calling, etc. (the list seems endless), we're moving into arguably the toughest FCS conference in the country and I'm just not certain what this season will hold. How much of last season's dumpster-fire was coaching? Talent? Morale? Likely a combination of all three plus some I've not mentioned. No, for me this season is about growth not expectations (admittedly low). Wins will be few, perhaps we can steal a couple, but I just can't expect too much (and still be fair to the staff and players) in a very important transition year.

I may have to start another thread when the season practices start but looking at 2013 and then looking forward to 2014 you have to take flush it / drive on, F-I-D-O mentality but you cannot ignore a 2-10 record and average 10 points less than your opposition. factor out Ga. Tech We still sucked.
Also We are averaging 10 -12 Seniors on our roster the last few seasons but We also lose a hand full of guys that do not take advantage of their final year of eligibility for what ever the reason. So it is hard to look at the roster from experience. We do have some transfers but most of our talent is home grown. Coach Rich has a clean slate but a lot more talent than what Lembo inherited. Seagraves and his staff just did not have FCS caliber talent across the board and then tried to change their scheme and Hamilton took a bad Big South team to the SoCon, sounds familar? I was a History major and it does repeat. We have now FCS caliber athletes on the roster. The question is can they win or right now have a will to win and excel?

Well, I was a history major too...and now teach it myself, so I'll disagree a wee bit that it repeats... Agree that we're in better shape to make this transition, certainly better than going to FCS, Big South to SoCon, than we were in previous transitions. Plus, in this case, we've coach who understands what it takes at Elon to win and engage the fans. Swepson never got it. If we had Rhode Island on the schedule, I'd say we get at least one conference win, but as things stand at the moment I can see Elon finishing with wins against NCA&T, and perhaps Charlotte and JMU. 3 wins looks terrible, but one can still see a better team, better effort with only three wins. I'm just bracing myself for 3-8 or worse, which oddly can be an improvement over last season even finishing 1-10. Year two under Coach Rich is the measuring stick for me, not necessarily year one.

Breaking down the 2014 roster : Defensive Line
Defensive Football commandment #1 STOP THE RUN All great teams can be great against the run. If not it's just a really long season. Safeties cannot be your leading tacklers. Rutgers transfer, Marquise Wright could be the right fit w/ %th yr player Justin Ruff a fire plug 300#er Pearson, Jones,Warren will need breaks. and depth may shift some OL guys to plug the run.
42 Robert Davis DL 6-1 245 Jr. Thomasville, N.C. / Thomasville 45 Anthony Mullis DL 6-3 220 Fr. Concord, N.C. / Central Cabarrus 54 Daniel Everett DL 6-1 218 Fr. Williamston, N.C. / Riverside 56 Mike Warren DL 6-4 240 So. Jacksonville, N.C. / White Oak 59 Josh Armstrong DL 6-3 215 Fr. Fayetteville, N.C. / Sanford 60 Dustin Ruff DL 5-10 296 Sr. Waxhaw, N.C. / Parkwood 90 Dondre Howell DL 6-4 243 R-Fr. Mooresville, N.C. / Mooresville 91 Marquise Wright DL 6-2 308 Jr. Englewood, N.J. / Rutgers University 92 Tyler Drake DL 6-1 234 Jr. Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck 93 Rob Sullivan DL 6-4 220 Jr. Scottsdale, Ariz. / Notre Dame Prep 94 Nick Groll DL 6-6 257 R-Fr. Armonk, N.Y. / Byram Hills 95 Michael Pearson DL 6-2 274 Sr. Laurens, S.C. / Laurens 98 Chris Jones DL 6-2 275 Jr. Fayetteville, N.C. / Douglas Byrd 99 Dominic Bourne DL 6-2 277 So. It would be nice if Wright was good enough to demand some double teams. I remember when Jones was recruited Swepson was quoted as saying he would be the best player ever for Elon. Hope he starts to show the ability that was seen in him.
