Survived yet another one against Marist this past Sunday to finish up the non-conference schedule at 8-5. Now on to the CAA...
Open at Drexel in Philly who was picked in the top half of the league, but appears to have struggled with a 2-9 record. They did open with some tough games against 4 power conference schools. They have lost 5 straight coming in to this. They have a big guard (6'6) who was on the CAA preseason 1st team, Damion Lee, who is averaging around 20 a game and appears to like to shoot the 3, as does the team as a whole (around 18 attempts a game). Another tall guard (6'7) is the 2nd leading scorer. They have length on the wings, but not an overly big team and they don't score a whole lot - less than 60 per game. It would be nice to open CAA with a win.
Thought?

I think we match up well with Drexel. HOWEVER, if we have the ice cold 10-12 minute start we've had in the last couple of games, we'll have a hard time winning. That said, I think we're a little more athletic, and defend against the three very well. As I said earlier, if the ENTIRE team steps up to fill in the void left by Eddy's injury, I think we take this one. If not, we'll struggle against Drexel and many of the CAA teams.

It should be an interesting test. I would assume teams are going to try and pound it down low on us and try to keep us from running.
I consider us 6-5. Two wins against non-NCAA schools that are basically JuCos don't count in my book.

That's fine by me. In that case Drexel is actually 2-8 rather than 2-9. They actually lost to a non div 1 team.

17-14.
That's my prediction for our record at the end of the regular season. That would mean we go .500 in our conference schedule, something I think we could really build on since we are so young and it's a major step up in talented opponents from the SoCon. The only teams I see beating us twice potentially are Northeastern, Hofstra and W&M - which means in order to be .500 we will need to take two from the likes of Delaware, Drexel and one other team.

Hey everyone and welcome to the League (even though we played last year)! You need not worry about us pounding it down low against you, as we haven't done that for the past three years. Our bigs are generally gifted about 25% of our shot attempts, but that could be going down further as Rodney Williams is out for the next 4-6 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot. He really is the only big that is even remotely allowed to be involved in the "offensive" set that we run, and he joins the long list of players that have been injured the past few years that will see Drexel only have 8 guys dressed for the game against you guys.
From what I see on KenPom, you play fast and create turnovers which both bode poorly for the Dragons. It also seems that you foul quite a bit, but since Drexel doesn't really like to go to the hoop, that shouldn't hurt you all that much. In the first conference mythical fire-creature feature, you probably walk out of the DAC with the W.
If any of you are coming up, safe travels and hope you enjoy your visit!

OMG.....what a half against Drexel! Elon up by 18. Hitting 3s all over the place. Bryant and the rest of the team on fire. That was the best half of basketball I have seen from Elon this year. Need to keep it up in the second half but team is looking so good. Bryant already has 17 points in the half, Tanner has 3 3's and team is passing the ball very well. Fantastic half.

Here's the scoop: 46-28 Elon at the half. The Drexel video feed is HD and the quality is good. The announcers are idiots, they didn't know they played Elon last year, they arbitrarily gave Sabato the number 5; they pronounce Sabato-Sabuto and Anton-Actin. The video locks up every 15 seconds to 2 minutes. Drexel should start a football team because their basketball players hit very well. They mugged Bryant to get the ball for the final shot of the half. Best start by the Phoenix this year. Either 10 or 11 3s in the half. Bryant is a beast I think he has either 16 or 18 in the first half. Drexel has no answer. Drexel only has 8 players, so you have to give them credit for being able to run for the entire half. We'll have to see how that effects them for the 2nd half. VERY proud of the Phoenix for the first half.

Lee hurt, hope it's just a cramp. He's been their best player tonight.
