Looking for a solid performance tonight on both ends of the court. Need to play smart controlled basketball with low number if turnovers. Time for the freshman and sophomores to contribute and show some development to compliment the upper classmen. Go Elon

Someone needs to ask Matheny a couple of questions:
1. Does anyone know that our team is short compared to all the other teams in the conference? If so: 2. Why don't all of out players under 6'4" know how to shoot a running floater? 3. Why, when most of our open shots are from 10-15 ft. can not one of our players make that shot?
Right now, if we don't press, we're fu€ked. But if we can't shoot the floater or make a pull up 10-15 footer, well, why press. The reality is that we aren't a good 3 point shooting team in more than 1 of 4 games. What we're doing AIN'T EFFING WORKING. And, unless out goal is to keep getting the sh!t kicked out of us, we better do something different and right now! Really getting tired of this.

I'm assuming that since there are no replies here the regulars have also given up on this team. Hate to say it but I'm ready to join you.

Saw this coming a mile away. Posted many times about this. We had some fight for a bit. Now our warts are showing. In a big way.
Zero post, young players who have to contribute in the backcourt. Kids who can't make their own shot.
This is the team - I hate to say it - I expected to see.
We have to shoot lights out to have a chance. My biggest beef is that this sort of team - young, etc. Should not exist in a coaches sixth year.

Same old story different team. No leadership on the floor to direct the flow of the offense. Passing up 10 -15 foot shots because team is scared to shoot. Ever notice when Samson misses a shot, which is often these days he looks at yh e bench waiting to get blasted. Dude is a deer in headlights. He's living off past glory and is hurting us on the offensive side of the ball. Bryant hasn't passed up on a shot he didn't like. AAU mentality is showing. To be a guard oriented team, you need guards who can shoot consistently and we don't have that with this team. Rebuilding process upcoming up in the off season.

Isenbarger was the same way. Great his freshman year then progressively got worse until he was hurting the team his senior year. This team is now slow again, incompetent inside the arc, streaky outside the arc, can't create off the dribble, won't pass and won't play defense. There are just certain things you do when you have a short team, this team isn't doing them. We went from being confident and showing promise to being just plain crappy. Was watching Sabato toward the end of the game, he had the right idea but he just can't shoot. He has no touch. Is there a possibility that the boy just needs glasses?

It wouldn't be bad if the team worked hard each play but at times it seems that they don't know there role either offensively or defensively. We have several players playing out of position. Sabato at best is a backup center or backup 4. 10 to 12 minutes per game Guards are playing as if they're looking for the other guy to shoot and Bryant doesn't know he has other players on the team. This is the coaches recruits and the buck starts there. Walk walk walk .....,sit down

Remember, there are two probable starters that are out for the year. Take two starters out of any teams line up. add being young and this is what can happen. Just a thought, I could be wrong.

this is very frustrating to watch, no one likes to see their team get outmatched, but the reality is we took a huge step up in conferences and it came in a year that we are rebuilding...unless you are an elite college basketball program the reality is that success comes in cycles, there are no one and done kids in the caa, the good teams each year are the veteran teams who have developed talent and have upperclass leadership.
a couple comments...
- I agree Bryant has a quick trigger, but i don't think he is being selfish - he is one of the few players who can create his own shot and I would bet the coaching staff and team are encouraging him to put up shots. He also won a game for us against W&M with his pull-up-off-the-dribble three point shots, he's stopped doing those now after having less success in recent games....by the way he is leading the team in assists...he's our best "play maker" so the offense should run through him, but keep in mind the kid is a freshman. If he learns and progresses the way we should expect him to he could be the best player in the conference in a few years
- that floater that we are desperately lacking has a name....luke eddy. It's easy to blame coaches for these lopsided losses, but we have been hit hard with injuries...Eddy was our leading scorer, and like Bryant, could create his own shots. When he went down, our chance of having a winning season ended, that's just a fact. Throw in Dawkins being out all year and now Winters. Our margin of error against these CAA teams now is razor thin.
- UNCW and NE both shot over 50% from the field...some of that is certainly on elon for not defending better, but it's also just a bit of bad luck too. When we play both of those teams again, you can bet they both don't shoot over 50% from the field.
- Sabato is a liability. He didn't play at all last year and now due to injuries (dawkins would be starting over him) Matheny is forced to play the kid...i feel bad saying this because he seems to be giving his best effort, but he just stinks.
- a quick reality check, before we go throwing Matheny to the wolves, his last full recruiting class (4 thousand point scorers) started their freshman year 14-17 (7-11 in conference), keep in mind that was a much weaker conference schedule. It's a process and a cycle, eventually I can see Matheny getting to the point where he is able to recruit enough talent to keep the momentum going each year (i.e. Davidson), but he's not quite there yet.
- A bright note from last night, any one catch Dmitri's two smooth mid-range pull ups? He needs some of Bryant's confidence, but he showed last night he can make a jump shot...he is a work in progress, but has a huge upside
This year is going to continue to be a grind, but if we are being honest, we all knew that coming in. Let's see how these young guys improve now that we are making our second run through the CAA schedule and maybe try to pull an upset or two in the conference tournament. Then let's get healthy in the off season, bring is our new freshman class featuring 3 star recruit Santa Ana (three point specialist) and see how we are all feeling this time next year.

Couple notes:
Why do people bring up Dawkins? It's not like he showed anything last year.
To the Santa Anna signing - whe don't need shooters we need post players.

A couple of points to ponder:
1. Did I miss something or Dawkins has not shown anything to this point when healthy. Folks on this board are making him out as the next air apparent post player. A year ago he was 3rd on the depth chart behind Troutman and Egowasin. Only reason why he got time was due to injury to Troutman's backup. Let's not give him un-earned credit.Still has to show he's capable to play at this level.
2. Bryant is averaging at best 3 assists per game. Doesn't show mw he's a point guard or even a distributor of the rock. His motto is shot first / pass second
3. Samson is again back to his usual decline in productions the season gets deeper into the schedule and the competition is tougher.
4. Name the last true post player Matheny has brought in since Troutman. He loves the guard oriented offense but most games only one maybe two show up and play
Lastly the average winning score is about 70 to 75 points. If our guards are HOT maybe a total of 45 to 50 points. Where's the rest coming from?

Ok, here's another list:
1. Our venue SUCKS! We're not getting a "big time" recruit until he has at least a decent place to play. Sorry, but the intimate but loud BS only works with a venue of 3,500 or more. Anything smaller in NCAA DIVISION 1 is embarrassing. I know we have a commitment, but until they break ground, it's all lip service to me.
2. Dawkins is probably not coming back in any substantial way. He had surgery a LONG time ago. If he ain't back yet, he probably ain't coming back, certainly not in any impactful way. Not trying to be mean, but why is he still on the travel roster?
3. I get that we are missing good players. Eddy was gone for W&M. Winters is the only other player out of the line up. Yes, he is a senior and a leader, but he is a role player and his absence shouldn't be a devastating loss. He can still lead from the bench.
4. What we're doing ain't working, so do we keep on doing the same thing? Yes, that is a rhetorical question! Like ninjaplease said, we don't have ONE PLAYER that can drive and shoot a floater or a pull up two point jumper. WHY?
5. If you have a small team you have to play tough defense and a slow down, look for the open guy & shoot the three. WELL, we can't shoot the three and we can't or won't play defense. so we're going to have to play MUCH FASTER, and figure out how to make shots from 15 ft. and shorter.
6. It's time for Hairston and Thompson to STEP UP!! Don't be so stinking tentative. You're not going to get any taller. So, get aggressive! Use your athletic ability to make things happen. You're quick enough to either make the play or draw the foul!
7. We're getting NO and ones. Trying to draw the foul is good, but FINISH. Make the shot AND get the plus one.
Just my $.02.
