Looks like Coastal will announce they are moving up to FBS today.
Doesn't directly impact the CAA, but they were always a good candidate for replacing JMU if/when they leave. I would imagine the pressure is really going to be on JMU to act now if they truly intend to make a move.
I know we have talked about this before, but would love to see the CAA take some actions now to stabilize the conference even more and get to two divisions. Hofstra has been blocking Stony Brook and possibly Albany, but adding them as full sports members and having a go to southern football school to replace JMU is key. I just have no idea what southern football school that would accept the invite is really desirable.
North Albany Delaware Drexel Hofstra Northeastern Stony Brook
South College of Charleston Elon JMU/Replacement? Towson UNC Wilmington William & Mary
Go Phoenix!

I was down at Coastal this summer & was wondering when this would happen. I was hoping they would come to the CAA, but when you take a look at their facilities, it doesn't take a genius to see they were destined for much more. They have done, to a great degree what Elon is doing by moving all of the sports venues into one consolidated area. They have just done it on a much grander scale. After all, Coastal's student body is double ours and growing like crazy. Plus, they are only a short distance from the beaches and entertainment of Myrtle Beach.
Congratulations to them.

I'll put this in the same class as the moves by App and GSU. Who cares?
All of these schools have traded elite status in FCS to be a nobody at the FBS level. Puzzling.
I just don't get it.

They will certainly never be to the FBS what they were or could have been to the FCS. But the Sun Belt seems to be making some good moves. The addition of GA State was brain dead, but App Ga Southern and Coastal are an excellent compliment in football and baseball. and with the extra 22 scholarships, the overall quality of the teams should rise. They will certainly will never be the SEC or the ACC but the Sun Belt could certainly be in a solid third place in the south and could easily rise to the top of the second tier of D1 football, in time, with the moves they're making. They're also being smart by staying with a relatively compact geographical footprint unlike some of the other G5 conferences. So, IMO at some point things should turn out pretty well for the Sun Belt members.
