Baseball starts conference play today. Need a good start against W&M with UNCW and CofC looming the next two weekends. I hadn't noticed how front loaded the conference schedule is.
W&M seems to be struggling on the mound, but hits the ball well. Hopefully Elon can at least take 2 of 3.

Well, unlike basketball, I have expectations of the Baseball Program and for 2 years, they've disappointed me.
I don't know where we go from here.

No doubt it's a disappointing start. However, Kennedy deserves the longest leash of any coach or administrator at Elon.
We are feeling the effects of our tuition and the NCAA's idiotic 11.7 scholarship limit. Throw in the 25% minimum grant and you'll see why it's been tough.

I'm really not sure why Kennedy's still here. I know he's had other offers. Possibly because he has a son in 10th grade. I'll be surprised if he's not gone by the 2019 season.

A lot of his offers are in the area, where he could stay at his same house. Kennedy is committed to Elon, something past coaches in other sports were not

2-6 through 8 games. Taking 1 of 3 against Charleston was a good thing the way both teams have been playing.
They really need to take the series next weekend in Boston or they are going to be in a huge hole as far as the CAA tourney is concerned. I think it's snowing up there now, so it may still be fairly cold for that series. Not sure if that plays into Northeastern's hands or not.

The sweep of Towson was good and has moved them into the top 6, which is what makes the conference tournament. The last 3 series in conference play are against the 3 teams below Elon in the standings so maybe they can move up a little.

Most of our games left are against the bottom teams. We have a strong look to finish mid pack and up. As long as we finish 6th or better we have a shot at the post season. Its a new game come conf play.

Hard to believe with the way this season has gone that the team currently sits in 3rd. The last conference series are against he #6 (JMU) & #8 (Delaware) teams. A decent change to lock up a #3 if they stay hot! They've played pretty well that past 9 games, out scoring opponents 91-60.....and with a win against a solid UNCG team.

Sorry cant get this formatted right. Below are games left. A lot of the bottom feeders beat up on each other, making it even more likely we can stay in 3rd. We would need to win out and W&M loose 4 of 9 to go into 2ed

Not really been keeping up with our spring sports (not lack of interest, just too busy with other things)...but saw feature interview last night of UNC-W catcher - caught middle of it, but he is leading the nation in something - RBIs maybe? Apparently was not even a starter last year...said he worked last summer on his game to get into the lineup. Sounds like we have had some impressive competition this year. Baseball can be a strange game in many ways...not unusual to have lopsided scores reverse on back to back games.

The air was let out early in the baseball fan base. We started the season playing a buzzsaw in all the top teams

Looks like the team is close to locking up the 3rd seed in the conference tourney. Given the way this season started, that’s a minor miracle. Much of the bullpen is still pretty atrocious, but the team has been scoring runs the past few weeks which has helped to get things going.
I think the only way they lose the 3rd seed is if Northeastern goes 5-1 in the remaining 6 games or if any one of CofC, Towson or JMU go 6-0 the rest of the way. The good thing is NE plays CofC and Towson to finish, CofC also has W&M and JMU has a series against UNCW.
The benefit of the 3 seed is they get W&M should they win game one instead of UNCW.
UNCW 13-3 W&M 13-7 ELON 13-10 NE 9-8 COFC 8-10 JMU 8-10 ------------------------------- TOW 8-10 DEL 7-11 HOF 5-15
Go Phoenix!
