We are heading towards a third straight losing season. This program was once the crown jewel of the school. We are barely .500 since 2012.
It's obvious we don't have the talent we become accustom to.
Thoughts?

It's actually very simple: Elon COA: $48,099 - scholarship: (45% avg) $26,454 - academic money: $0 = $25,668 out of pocket UNCW COA: $23,113 (NC resident) - scholly: (45%) $10,401 - academic: $0 = $12,712 UNCW COA: $37,082 (non resident) - scholly: (45%) $16,687 - academic: $0 = $20,395 Campbell COA: $42,150 - scholarship: (45%) $18,968 - academic: $12,645 = $10,537 COA source: www.collegedata.com/cs/search/college/college_match_tmpl.jhtmlElon will continue to struggle in baseball for as long as they are unable to offer academic scholarships and COA assistance.

We will never be in a position to offer COA. Most CAA schools do not offer it to all sports.
We have offset the COA issue with our study abroad program for athletes.
It's more than just that. Something is just not right.

While I do agree the finances play a part, I also think something else has changed. The team was always dealing with funding limitations and this downward trend started before the COA took effect.
I distinctly remember the last year in the SoCon the team was playing well and situated fairly well in the conference standings and then went 1-8 to finish the year in conference and ended up in the play in game against the Citadel and were the first team out.
Since that collapse the final year in the SoCon, the team has been a shadow of its former self. They used to have a lot of swagger and now they almost seem like a muzzled dog.
With that said, they are still 10-8 in the conference, albeit in a pretty bad year for the CAA. Hopefully they can at least take 2 of 3 at Hofstra and finish strong at home against UNCW.
Go Phoenix!

Campbell has half the the endowment resources of Elon. I don't think they can beat us on the academic money.

Through recent discussions I have got the incline that baseball might be next in line for upgrades. Nothing specific or set in stone just me reading between the lines in conversations. That should help with part of the recruiting. The other issue is the price. A year or two ago President Lambert made the statement that the school was switching its focus from the brick and mortar to the endowment. Ive said it before our endowment is low and needs work and it will take time. But as it grows our ability to supplement athletic scholarship will grow, until then Public schools will always have a leg up on us.

Anyone think at some point a change at coaching is needed?

I don't consider Campbell a peer to Elon. We've moved way past them.
Not to mention we're 12-4 vs Campbell since 2000.
If we're battling Campbell for recruits, maybe that's the problem.

Campbell 's moved past us. Take another look. New facilities, new field. Just beat the crap out of Virginia Tech yesterday, 7-2. Not even close.

I looked up Campbell's baseball team last few years. 2017 and 2016 .500 ball. 2015: 32-25, 2014: 41-21, 2013: 49-10, 2012: 41-18 .... I know the conference might not be as good but results speak for themselves. In the same time frame, I am pretty sure Elon has played .500 at best. Campbell has a done a lot of updates to their stadium which includes a new video board which is larger than the one we just put in at Rhodes.
Also random tidbit "The Houston Astros announced that the Carolina League Buies Creek Astros will serve as the temporary Astros Class A Advanced affiliate for the 2017-18 seasons. The Buies Creek Astros will make their home at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C."

I see the notes above regarding Campbell. If you compare the schools as I was, there is no comparison. Elon is better academically has a better campus and larger endowment. That is where I was heading. We play in a better conference and have history in baseball.
Hence my comments. This is more about the state of the Elon's program and issues. I could not care less about Campbell. They are not our peer.

It doesn't matter whether you consider them a peer or not. They're going after the same level of recruit. Campbell is just an example. Elon has the same problem versus Furman and Davidson. UNCW is most definitely our peer and is one of the top three state supported schools in NC academically. This is a PRIMARY reason we don't get the same level of recruit and why we choose as many quality juco's as we do.

I always love the reason we have a better campus but in the end that doesn't mean a lot to every recruit. Does it help, sure sometimes. Last I checked no recruit cared how big their endowment was, is or will be let alone know what an endowment means for a university. Academically, yes it is a great school but outside of NC not many know this honestly. Being from outside of the Northeast and Carolinas, no one has heard of Elon or know that it is great academically, and this a truth that a lot of Elon grads and fans will not take well I know. I surely did not, the only reason was my parent's friend told me about the school and I looked into it.
