I do not follow Elon baseball closely. But in past years, I have enjoyed reading comments here about the team. This year there is hardly a peep for what seems to be an improved team.

I think this board died, there are maybe 3 phans of Elon that wish to make conversations, I guess it is what it is.

There has certainly been a bit of a turn around for baseball this year. Finished 16-8 in conference which is good for 2nd overall. Sets up a chance for a CAA title and making the tourney.
The RPI is a little low at 105 which is partly because the SOS is so bad. You can argue the CAA is not as good as the SoCon used to be, but really it’s the OOC SOS that is ranked 223. Played 5 games against top 50 teams (ECU x2 and Northeastern x3) and wasn’t able to win any. Lacked the big midweek games against UNC, NC State or any big OOC series like Clemson or Nebraska in recent years. Did do pretty good against next set of 51-100 with an 8-6 record. I just mean to say it’s not a club that is getting in to the tournament without a conference championship.

It is good to see the improvement this season. I hope it can be sustained.
Brnovich seems to have put together an amazing season? How does he compare to other good pitchers Elon has had in the last 10 years?

Even though it was against the two worst teams in the conference, it was impressive to see them sweep the final two series and get the bye knowing that's what they had to do. Need to keep the momentum going into Harrisonburg.
Assuming Rooney is on the mound Wednesday it wouldn't surprise me to see Hofstra beat CofC on day one. I'm glad Elon doesn't have to face him.

Here's my contribution. From a professional standpoint, this is the most talented Elon baseball team in many years. Don't be surprised if 3 to 5 Elon baseball players are selected in the 2018 draft, as well as 2 or 3 more next year. The pitching on this team is really, really good . |

Don't be surprised if 3 to 5 Elon baseball players are selected in the 2018 draft, as well as 2 or 3 more next year. The pitching on this team is really, really good . I think there is tons of talent as well. Just didn’t win the handful of opportunities they had against the “better” competition - meaning higher ranked RPI teams. Also, just not sure why we didn’t get those sort of games this year. Maybe scheduling was weaker assuming the team wasn’t going to be as good and needed easier competition. But IMO, we should be getting midweek games with UNC and NCSU every year. Throw in Wake, ECU, Duke who is trending up lately and there are plenty of opportunities. I guess there are also a lot of schools in NC for those programs to choose from for their midweek games. Better OOC series earlier on would be great as well. This team is very young. Two biggest losses will be Welhaf and Evers but pitching should still be VERY solid next year. |
