If Schrage ( or another top P-5 school assistant ) gets the job, would if be reasonable to assume that Elon has made the decision to increase the budget for recruiting and assistants, as well as relax the admission requirements ?
I can't see a candidate with other offers accepting the job without these stipulations.

Elon is a better job than Niagara. I guess we didn't push very hard for Beilein.

I think its totally reasonable Elon would be able to sign a P-5 assistant. UMKC..hardly a plum job..just hired the #2 asst. from Michigan State. 350K-400K for a mid-major job is competitive. I think MM make around $300K..so they will have to come up a little. And I don't think Elon's admission requirements are too stringent...certainly no more stringent than Davisdon, Furman, Wofford, etc. I mean..we aren't an Ivy League or service academy.

Is Wofford, Forman, Davidson ect. in the CAA?
Admisions hold back Elon compared to conference foes.
But it shouldn't be enough to hold back a good coach.
It is a negative, but not a deal breaker.
App State just hired Kearns from Presbyterian. I would rate that a B hire overall.
I think Craft from GWU or Lutz would of been safer hire, more proven track records but the guy did turn things around in year two.
Hopefully Elon knocks this hire out of the park!

Ok..are Elon's admission requirements more stringent than William and Mary? Northeastern? Of course not. We landed the players we landed due to poor recruiting..and the failure not to coach them up. Not some made up "hardness" factor. Look at Belmont and Lipscomb as "like" programs that have done it right. Also, I don't know what the obsession on this site is with Bobby Lutz. He is a tomato can who was fired from his last HC job, was on a staff who is currently under investigation (NC State), and who is doing a radio show in Charlotte. No one...I mean no one..is banging down his door for ANYTHING. He is old as dirt too. Lastly, I mentioned UMKC hired the asst. from Michigan State. It was actually Northwestern. Just wanted to correct that.

Elon is a better job than Niagara. That's arguable. Niagara has a decent history in basketball with some pretty solid seasons from 2000-2013. The coach at that time? Joe Mihalich who is now with Hofstra.

Elon is a 100% better job than Niagara. Better conference, much, much better facilities, etc.
BTW, the Dustin Kerns hire shows what a crappy job App State is. A sub .500 hire from Presbyterian? Wow...

Wow... Agreed with App State. Still arguable with Elon being a better job than Niagara (at the moment). He obviously felt he would have a better chance to win there and use it for his stepping stone. Do we have some better "features"? Yes. Niagara has some history....we do not. Elon all time D1 winning percentage: .429 (265-352) Niagara all time D1 winning percentage: .542 (1471-1244) Hopefully we'll get a solid hire that will put my opinion to shame

I've been to Niagara. It's a dump. The facilities are terrible. It's hemmed in by tourist garbage and a hydro power plant. The winter weather is horrendous.
It's a worse job than Elon in the level of advertising education, campus, facilities, weather. Yeah maybe they have some history but big deal, we're in the now

The new leader of the men's b/ball program will have to bring in new and better talent and do a rebuild it and take a bit of time or less time and be prepared to start over again because winners and program builders are rare and obviously in demand. We are going to be able to do it.

Yeah maybe they have some history but big deal, we're in the now Some of these coaches obviously didn’t like “now” we’re living in. I’m not enjoying the “now” we’re living in. This administration better have something up their sleeve, or the future of this “now” we’re living will mirror the past. We have a good “feature” as a selling point, but that doesn’t create a successful product. The experience, emotional connection and coaching does.

Why is Scott Cherry not being mentioned for the job? He did some good things at HPU where it is not as strong on really any level than it is at Elon. I agree we need a young coach, but i also understand it is harder for Elon to lure a hoops coach to campus than a football coach because of lack of success and history.

That would be a disappointing hire. If we're going for a coach that got fired from an even worse basketball school than Elon we can do better.

Not like Burlington, NC is much to brag about either though. - Don't event say Greensboro (DUMP). Looking at their campus it is not that bad as it is also a small private school, the weather sure Elon has them and facilities sure but up until this year, Elon was in the same boat. They are one facility away from being the same as Elon or better. I love Elon but I get really tired of everyone just saying that Elon is better and say campus/weather etc. All these schools south of us have better weather too haha and other places have great campuses. Just because we have a lot of bricks and flowers doesn't always make it the best. And news flash: go to the midwest, west coast, etc and no one has heard of Elon outside of athletics maybe - Elon Musk is more known when you say Elon. It is a very Carolina/Northeast name. Oh and Since 2000 - Niagara NCAA Appearances -2005, 2007, NIT Appearances - 2004, 2009, 2013 ... ......Side note did you know Elon is 0-5 in postseason play (D2, CIT and NAIA)- you want a laugh.. look at the media guide page 53 it is the Division 1 Postseason history - one page and it is the write-up and box score when we lost to Canisius in the CIT.

Agree 100% SHUT UP. Also, not that I want Scott Cherry as our next coach, but High Point is not a worse basketball school than Elon. And in less than 2 years, High Point will have a basketball arena that will make Schar look low rent.
You can't make yourself better by putting others down.
