Conference play - excellent Out of conference - horrible
I understand there are three high caliber pitchers for the weekend, but mid -week games are hard to figure.

It is troubling. Really troubling.

I think it’s 2 things. 1. Clearly the pitching depth is not there for the midweek games. 2. Some of it is competition level. We played a number of good N.C. teams midweek - NCSU, ECU, UNCG, Campbell - that are better than typical CAA teams.
Almost wonder if it would have been thought of to send out Brnovich or Kirby midweek to try and get a signature win or 2 that would also have boosted RPI.

My thoughts initially, however, many of the out-of-conference games were lower scoring affairs.

This was the strongest OOC schedule we've played in a while. It sucks that we lost so many, but the only brown bagger was the loss to A&T. Even they are better than they are traditionally. High Point, playing their 5th game in as many nights beat Wake Forest tonight. May need to win the tournament to gain a berth into the NCAA regionals though.

Our NCAA RPI fell from 84 to 88 yesterday. No chance we get in without a CAA tourney win.

Our NCAA RPI fell from 84 to 88 yesterday. No chance we get in without a CAA tourney win. Yeah, we really only have Hofstra (just closed out an opening win) and UNCW next weekend left. No midweek game and last weekend is the “off” weekend that every team gets/takes. Hofstra is 214 and UNCW is only 183, so no chance to get any higher really. The sweep of W&M was when we jumped into 80’s. Before that it was 120 range if not 140. Gotta win CAA to get in and then still a borderline 3 seed in a regional. They have a bye locked up because they couldn’t fall below 2nd place and barring a huge collapse they should be #1 seed. Also they clearly have the CAA’s number this year so here’s hoping to a strong finish and tournament.

Pretty sure Elon just clinched the #1 seed with a win today and the C of C loss to W&M. Worst possible record is 18-6 which is less losses than C of C has at this point. They are in good shape going in to the conference tourney.

Its been an awesome season. Now, it’s all about the CAA tourney.
It’s a one weekend deal, now.

How do we play the Tourney? Its all about staying in the winners. Do we chance game 1 and throw a mid week guy to save our ACE for a possible #2 seed pairing. We would be playing winner of the 4/5 seed who would of already thrown there ACE.

We have 2 aces so I think we go Brnovich and Kirby trying to reach the final with no losses. Weatherbee has been pitching good too so see what happens early but fully platoon game the championship if needed. If they lost it then maybe Brnovich/Kirby could split the deciding game on short rest. If they lost in the 1st or 2nd game my idea is out the window and not sure how they would react.

Congrats to the team on winning the regular season title! Ran away with it.
I think they have lost 11 straight midweek games now. The mid-week struggles have been going on for a few years it seems.
With that said, I'd much rather them win a conference championship and struggle during the week than vice versa.
Hopefully they can keep it up going into the tourney. They are 2-8 in the CAA tourney since joining the league. Need to turn it around.
Go Phoenix!

Congrats to Elon Baseball. Sucks that with all the midweek loses, we wouldn't get an at large. I mean 18-3 in CAA and 11-17 out of conference... 15-13 at home. Hopefully, they can take care of business in CAA tourney.
Side note, I know we don't talk softball much... Elon #2 seed lost twice to JMU. JMU is 47-7 on the year, 20-1 (that lose was to Elon). The Crazy thing is as a #2 seed we lost 9-1 and 12-0 both 5 innings and JMU won 12-0 in 5 innings in the first game against CofC. Talk about some dominance.
