Only one word to describe this basketball team today. Pathetic! No effort on either end of the court. Very poorly coached and not prepared to play this game. What have they been doing for the past month? Doesn’t look like they have been practicing. And our “super” recruits freshman class is non existent.

Given that they have been dealing with positive COVID tests they probably HAVEN'T been practicing. What would be the point of cancelling all those games if they were still gathering together to practice every day? A month off in the middle of the season is a HUGE deal...people get worried a out rust after just a couple weeks around the holidays and this was beyond even that. Expecting that we were going to come out of that long layoff like nothing ever happened is ridiculous. Let's see what things look like after a couple weeks of normal practice/games. Good grief people.

The chasm between the two coaching staffs is very evident in today’s game (Sunday) . It appears that their freshmen while not as highly rated as ours, has more readily adapted to the game. Once again, we have that deer in the headlights look.

Watching game now. Hard to not be disappointed by this team, regardless of COVID and injuries. This team hasn’t shown improvement from last year. A very Matheny-like season so far for our player development program. A quick run through Schrage recruits:
- McIntosh is a scorer. He’s probably shown the most promise, but still needs to grow as a distributor and improve shot selection. - Woods. Was his CAA tournament play a fluke? Hasn’t improved upon last year. Probably most disappointing player this year. - Burford . Quick guard with potential. Needs to improve shot. Can he play with McIntosh? Why continue to play Ike in front of him? Time to give him more PT and let him learn. - Graham. Can’t say I’ve seen him play much. Strong potential given size and ability to run the court. Need to play him more. Poser/Hannah are known quantities, let’s see what Graham can do and prepare him as the starter as the future (preferably next year). Also why play Wright at this point. Just need to let young guys play and prepare for next year - Jadun. Is he still hurt? Underwhelming freshman year for the most hyped recruit in school history. - Harris. Why hasn’t he played? He was a high recruit by Elon standards.
I know these are all probably overreactions given lack of practice time and games, but as someone who was very critical of Matheny and his inability to develop and recruit players, it’s only fair to express same frustration by lack of both second year improvement by the Hunters and impact by the highly regarded freshman recruiting.

Criticisms aside. Good to see the team still fighting late at the end of the game. Need to continue that defensive intensity and pace of play moving forward

The losses to injury of Ervin and JGB cannot be discounted. This would be a much better team with one or both of those players available and both are Schrage recruits. I was worried this season might be a wash when Butler went down.
I don't think any team that has had that long of a COVID layoff has come out looking crisp. Hopefully we'll see more improvement in the Wednesday night game at JMU, but this weekend's UNCW games realistically should give us a much better idea of where this team is.

Good grief is right. Should we be able to expect more? Absolutely. Does Covid give the team a pass to lose to every conference team by 20 points? NOPE. P5 conferences are playing with 100% effort. Either give up for the season or play and practice ALL IN!
