The first game is almost upon us! I could not be more excited for the Phoenix to show what we're capable of this year. Some people talk of a "Superbowl window" with NFL teams. Well, this could be our "Deep playoff window". We have all the pieces falling into place, we just have to execute, and it all starts with Wofford. What are everyone's thoughts?

It is great to hear your optimism. I would be interested in a couple examples of what you see as pieces falling into place.

It is great to hear your optimism. I would be interested in a couple examples of what you see as pieces falling into place. The depth at receiver, the strength and dependability at QB, our experienced DBs in Trevon Jones and Cole Coleman, our (semi)experienced OLine, our propensity for getting turnovers, and our excellence on special teams come to mind. Our red-zone offense was 8th in the country in the spring, and that was without a healthy Davis Cheek or Kortez Weeks (for half the games). I'm most curious about how our linebackers are going to play, since we have two freshman in Trey Alsbrooks and Nick Veloz listed as starters at OLB along with Bryce Graves as the 2nd string MLB. All of those three have shown promise in the spring and scrimmages but have little experience so getting them plugged in quick will be essential.

You folks have a lot more optimism than me. If the team is pretty healthy, maybe it’ll be a game. Spring was a little ugly (granted, it felt like just about everyone was injured).
Have a hard time getting enthused and optimistic after only beating a non-scholly team by 3 and losing to GWU by 22 in the spring. Yes, the team did have JMU on the ropes as well…so maybe there’s something.
First game sets the tone. Wofford installed a new offense. Maybe I’m completely wrong. At the moment expecting a 2 score loss.

This game won't be about Wofford's offense, Elon's offense or even Elon's defense. It will be about whether Elon can stop Wofford's DEFENSE.

Trevon Jones is getting beat on every play and misses a ton of tackles. Our defense is very inept. We will be out manned and out coached in every game. I won’t be making the trip to see this bunch play and the white out is putrid.

Would someone please explain to me why you would run the ball on fourth and two in your own territory when you haven’t been able to run all day. That was an atrocious call on our oc part not to mention the complete lack of clock management for the whole game. By the way, Davis missed a ton of open receivers. 0-11 for the season .

Two turnovers killed us - interception that should’ve been a caught pass and Cheek’s fumble. I agree - offensive play calling was extremely questionable at best. Still scratching my head on Burning the timeout to run out the punt team when there were only two minutes left in the game with two timeouts.
Should’ve won that game hands down. Got to do better.
Defense only allowing 3 after the break gave us a chance. Have to win against Campbell next week.

This was such a tough loss to swallow, just from the way it happened, but once you do swallow it you should realize that we had some great takeaways from that game. The defense can play lights out when we really need them to (2nd half), Cheek can light it up when we need him to (a few drives, including the last one), and it seemed like out OLine had a good day pass blocking. We did a pretty bad job running the ball but remember: Wofford plays in the Socon against some excellent running teams, and they prepare for that more than anything. There's a reason we passed 51 times today, and we generally had success doing it. If it wasn't for that one tipped interception and the missed field goal (I think he slipped?) I think we win.
Oh well. On to Campbell. The season is just getting started.

Great takeaways? Not gonna sugar coat it….It’s a loss to a team that’s projected to finish next to last in SoCon.

Should have won this game!!
All spring people said we lost games because we were missing players, well all the players where are this one! If not the players then where do you look next? Clock management was terrible!
O-line did had a good game, Davis had time to throw the ball, didn't get that in spring.

Always tough to lose a game We had a chance to win but our team did scrap and come back against a good program like Wofford. Costly turnovers on our end of the field on a "tipped" INT and some big dog runs put us in a hole. We have some guys that can catch it but the running game has to improve to make teams play us honestly. We are good enough to win some games and the team needs to improve every dad-gum week.
