Phoenix Baseball to Play at First Horizon Park Tuesday, March 27, 2007
ELON, N.C. – Elon University Athletics today announced that the Phoenix baseball team will play one game at First Horizon Park in Greensboro, N.C. during the 2007 season. Elon will take on the Furman Paladins at noon on April 14, 2007. First Horizon Park is the home of the Florida Marlins’ Single A South Atlantic League’s affiliate Greensboro Grasshoppers and is located in downtown Greensboro.
“We are excited to play at a top-notch facility like First Horizon Park,” said Elon head coach Mike Kennedy. “We are grateful to the city of Greensboro, the Grasshoppers and the Marlins organization to give us the chance to play there.”
Stadium gates will open at 11:00 a.m. and admission will be $5.00 or free with a valid Phoenix Card. Ticket sales will begin at 10:00 a.m. The stadium concession stands will also be open throughout the game.
“We are very happy to give Elon this opportunity to play Furman in a first-class minor league facility,” said Grasshoppers President and General Manager Donald Moore. “This is a nice opportunity for the student-athletes to showcase their abilities to the Greensboro community.”

Not a good time. I don't forsee there being a good crowd for this one. How come they couldn't play one of the Charleston games there? The Hoppers aren't in town on Friday or Saturday. A noon start might very well kill the crowd for this game.

I actually don't think they will be selling beer at that point. Leo would have a stroke.

We had beer at the Greensboro Coliseum for the Wake Forest game in 2005. I think it has more to do with the venue than the schools.

Beer is not allowed to be sold on campus at Elon, but if the venue is designated off campus i think the school has less of a say so. No matter for me though i still have my broken License and first horizon wouldn't take it at the last hoppers game i was at.

Just curious.... why would a noon start time kill the crowd? I figured that wouldn't be a problem on a Saturday.
