It is that time of year to see what the Phoenix Phaithful expect this year.

I thinkwe get solid wins against WV Wesleyan, WCU, Chatty, and Stony Brook. I think we eek out wins against GSU and El Cid. I'm not so sure about Liberty, I really don't know enough about them. Could be another win for the big 7.
Honestly, I think predictions for this season are based more on heart and a slight amount of solid information than real world stats. With more than 1/3 freshmen and perfectly green QB's anything could happen. We could probably go 4-7 as easily as we could 6-5. In 2008, I will be disappointed if we win less than 7 regardless of the ooc sked. But, this year will largely depend on how many mental mistakes are made, imho.

Liberty will be pretty good. Seems that they have the "Wake forrest Scenario" from a year ago.
I've talked to others in the SoCon that have your same view.....that we will probably go 4-7 or 5-6, but could also end up with 7 wins, depending on how the QB situation develops.
Our defense will be solid, but I'm not sure the offense has what it takes to keep them off the field....YET. Maybe 5 games into the season, things will gel.
We surely have great things coming the furture under Lembo. We've already seen promising growth within a short time.

I am optimistic about how things are heading with Lembo. But it might be another year before we see the kind of season Elon fans have been waiting for. I think QB and the OL are key areas that need to solidify before the team can be really competitive.

Im saying 7, App State will be the team to beat and to me is the only game that is not winnable at this point.(other than USF) GSU is putting in a new offense the Air Raid and it is a timing offense a lot like what Coach Lembo runs but I am not sold on them having the personnal to run it yet. But Chris Hatcher is a air raid guru so GSU is one of those wait and see games. I am going to say anywhere from 9-2 to 5-6 so I picked the middle of the 2 and 7-4.

I could be way off but I think, barring major injury, our OL is going to surprise, well, just about everyone who hasn't seen them practice or workout. The major factor will be keeping their heads and not missing their assignments. We have some SERIOUSLY talented freshmen and some impressive transfers. Rodney Austin is a beast. Also, the running corps. is serious this season as well. Clegg, Newsome and Taylor are all talented. Applegate also looks really good at FB. What's the weakest part of the team? Unfortunately QB. But, this is only from an experience standpoint. The talent is there. Like epride said above, this may also come around in mid season.
BTW, did anyone see the scrimmage tonight?

Do you think Austin has a chance to start? What position is he playing - OG or OT? Some freshmen I hear mentioned alot include Jeffcoat, Camp, Taylor, Wilson. Are there others likely to play this year - any LBs or DLs?

I'm going strictly off of what I read with the practice reports. I think 6-5 is a reasonable projection, with an upset of El Cid. Wins: WV-Wes, Liberty (good/close game expected), Western, El Cid and Chatt. Loss: USF,crApp, Furman, Wofford, GSU. I sounds like our defense is once again going to be the cornerstone of the team with special teams helping out. Our QB situation and OL are again the big Things are improving at a very rapid pace under Lembo. I think he has infused more confidence in two years than I ever saw in my four years under Seagraves (though it was the end of his tenure) and especially under PHam. Only 8 days left until the start of the season and I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Let me correct myself. After looking at stats from last year...I would put El Cid in the Loss column and GSU in the win. I don't think we can make up THAT much ground on the Bulldogs but with a new coach down in Statesboro and the changes they've had down there I think we can close in on the 28-21 L from last year.
I also left out Stony Brook as the 6th win of the season.
