What's everyones's thoughts about the game this weekend?
I don't know all that much about the team, but the did rack up 429 yards of offense last week against Kentucky Wesleyan, with 251 of those coming on the ground. Their QB also went 8-19-0 for 178 yards and a TD.
The good news is they gave up 295 yards in the air, which seems to be our primary attack.
What I'm wondering is if we get far ahead, do we put in Kirby who is a possible starter QB, or go deeper in the depth chart?
West Virginia Wes. isn't receiving votes for the D-II poll, so I'm wondering if they're any good, even though they won last week.
On a side note, Chatt lost to Carson Newman last week who is now ranked #13 in the D-II poll.

I don't know anything about WV Wes....but am hoping our team does not look past them, after playing in the Bucs' stadium last week before 33,000 fans. It will be quite a different atmosphere. Hopefully, as it's first home game, and first one that most freshmen students will see, there will be lots of energy and pride. I would expect us to win - but will take nothing for granted after ASU beat Michigan.

Should be well attended from the students esp. since it's at 6PM kick-off. Any students on this board know what the buzz is around campus? I really feel like an alum not knowing what the atmosphere is like on campus!!
I don't think WVW is going to be able to get 429 on the ground, our run defense did very well this past weekend. If they gave up 295 in the air I can see that 429 re-appearing but coming off of Riddle's arm. I'd look for a lot of passing. I hope that if we get a solid lead that Kirby would get a chance to see the field. While I don't think Lembo made any mistakes with Riddle I hope Kirby does get some PT!
I'm going strictly off of observations from this past weekend. I think we should get a W but I'm not going to say "easily" because I really don't think that anything will be easy this season.
GO PHOENIX!

i dont know, i always thought the night games were hard since you had to compeat with pregameing. Hopefully the freshman and sophmores still have the spirit. I think the no sports fan is a dieing breed at elon so hopefully it should be a pretty good crowd

Let's hope the guys are as pumped for this game against WV Wesleyan as they were about USF. I think WV Wesleyan is a perennial .500 team in DII, however I don't think that's any reason to take them lightly. They should be a good test for the run defense which was really strong in the first half last week, but struggled in the second half. I'm predicting a 42-17 type score, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were close in the first half. This is the most excited I have been about an Elon football team in a while so I'm hoping the guys continue to deliver. Let's hope for a good size crowd and that the storm building in the Atlantic doesn't come inland this weekend.
Go Phoenix!

I wish I could be there but we are going to the beach this weekend (Pending the aforementioned storm of course). I hope the Phoenix have a decent showing though and look forward to watching them in the future.

After how the team saw that they could hang with USF (Who will put up a BIG fight in the Big East) I think they are more than excited to see what they can do this week.

So far I'm disappointed. Too many penalties!!!!!!!!!! A number of guys have been injured. We are up only 10-7.
Hope that we can get going.

The 8th penalty of the half wipes out a good defensive play.

17-7 at the half. Riddle has 270+ passing yds. But, the 9 or 10 Elon penalties have hurt. Hope that we can stop the rash of yellows. We should be fine if we do. Hope that none of the injuries are too serious.

59-16, I'll take it!
Seems that our YOUNG team still has some kinks to work out. Riddle seems to be a hoss! 362 pass yards not too bad. It seems that Newsome played pretty well too. I was at a "Penn State" event here in Richmond with some friends, and the halftime score was disappointing, but the final was good!
Now, LET'S beat the ever liviing CRAP out of Liberty!

Just got back from the game. Other than the penalties (which made the first half tortuous to watch) and a couple lapses in pass coverage the team looked really good. As EP said, both Riddle and Newsome were impressive. This is the first I had seen of Newsome and he's really fast and shifty. He could be a real weapon. On defense Corey Weaver looked good which was no surprise, but Walker White really looked good. I don't recall his name getting mentioned much last year, but he was all over the field tonight. Overall, an impressive showing for everyone on the team, the holding and facemask penalties have to stop though. The season continues to look promising.
Go Phoenix!
